CodeWeavers announced recently that they're once again looking for more developers to come work for them on the compatibility layers Wine and Valve's Proton.
Their team posted the link on Bluesky to their jobs page, which currently lists positions for multiple General Wine Developers. According to the listing this full-time job would include working on "a variety of Wine-based software, including CodeWeavers's own CrossOver product; the Proton project for Valve software; and projects for other clients and software internal to CodeWeavers".
Could be a good opportunity for some readers to get involved in paid open source work, and help improve Linux gaming with Wine / Proton.
The jobs are available to work remote or in the US. There's some important requirements to keep in mind:
- Strong C language skills. Compilers, linkers, macros and function pointers don't scare you.
- Excellent debugging skills. You will be debugging applications whose source you do not have.
- Familiarity with developing on and administering a Linux system (bash, unix utilities, package management, etc).
- Ability to understand and debug build systems (Makefiles, autotools, etc).
- Understanding of good development practices (source control, atomic commits, code readability, test-driven development).
- Self-motivated to find work and learn new skills.
- No exposure to Microsoft code or reverse-engineering of Microsoft software.
