Inspired clearly by the likes of classic Zelda and the Game Boy Color, Isle of Reveries is one for fans of retro games that want something new and fresh.

Here you'll be travelling through the overworld and various dungeons, each of them split into distinct biomes with each area having their own unique mechanics from puzzle-focused areas to "open-ended, straightforward combat gauntlets". You play as a little owl named Lief, who has a fairy companion that can copy various objects in the game world. As the developer said: "Need to shoot an enemy from a distance? Copy and spawn the arrow-shooter. Need to keep a switch pressed? Copy and spawn a block." — sounds fun.

Features:

  • A large world that doesn’t hold the player’s hand, filled with charming anthropomorphic characters.
  • Eight dungeons, each with their own distinct theme and key item.
  • Key items that are useful in both combat and puzzle solving, and remain so after completing the dungeons they’re found in.
  • Use the fairy companion to copy and spawn various objects found in the world, including puzzle blocks, torches, mushrooms, and more.
  • Dedicated jump button so that there’s always space to equip the most relevant items.
  • Take a break from the adventure and enjoy bug catching and fishing.

There's a demo available on Steam right now and it's crowdfunding on Kickstarter with the goal really close to being hit.

I played the demo and it looked pretty fun, but had controller problems. I saw a number of people reporting similar problems, so hopefully that's something the devs will address in the main game.
