Insectile is an upcoming game that blends together exploration, creature collection and puzzle battles into what looks like quite a unique and charming experience. It will have Native Linux support and a demo is now available.

I've been getting some classic retro Pokémon vibes playing the demo but with a unique spin on it.

Here you're exploring giant gardens to find various different types of bugs that you store in jars, to bring them out during combat. The combat side of it is where the puzzle element to it comes in, as the battles aren't just plain attack versus hit-points. Instead each "Insectile" (what they call the creatures) have a different shape, and you need to slot all of yours onto the board of enemies to fit together to attack.

The demo is but a small taste, but I'm keen to see more from the full game on this one.
