Valve released a Steam Beta update for Steam Deck and Desktop that has some essential fixes, one of which was quite a nuisance bug on Steam Deck.

The May 9th update for Steam Deck:

General

  • Fixed controller not working intermittently after Steam restart.
  • Fixed games failing to connect to the Steam process when the Steam process id contains certain values.

Desktop Mode

  • Fixed regression causing friends and chat windows to not load properly when Steam shows the login window at startup.

That controller not working issue has been happening for ages, so it's nice to see it solved now — hopefully. This is in the Beta / Preview update channels you need to opt into. In case you missed it, another recent Steam Deck Beta update also finally added a battery charge limit option.

And for Desktop:

General

  • Fixed regression causing friends and chat windows to not load properly when Steam shows the login window at startup.
  • Fixed games failing to connect to the Steam process when the Steam process id contains certain values.

Be sure to also check out the recent updates to Proton that also contain some essential fixes.
