Something I completely missed is Crea, a cute looking 2D sandbox RPG which is now on Humble Store and looks very much like Terraria & Starbound, but that's not exactly a bad thing.
Trailer
It looks very much like Starbound & Terraria only with more RPG elements, which isn't a bad thing it could easily appeal more to some people, it looks like it has some pretty insane boss monsters. Personally it looks like it may actually appeal to me more than Starbound (and I LOVE that game) as to have all that plus have actual character progression sounds great, so Crea could be a hit!
The art style is a lot smoother than both Starbound & Terraria too as they look pixelated, personally I prefer the art style in Crea.
About
Crea is an easily moddable, 2D sandbox game with a lighthearted mood, colorful art and RPG elements. Drawing on the pioneers of the sandbox genre such as Minecraft and Terraria, Crea features combat and crafting in attractive, randomly-generated worlds for you to explore, tear apart, build back up, and remake in your own design.
Sandbox World
Crea's procedurally generated worlds means that you never run out of places to explore. Multiple biomes include plains, mountains, desert and the scorched land.
Character Progression
Build your character's stats and skills with RPG-style progression. Customizable characters can learn talents to help them gather, craft, fight and cast magic.
Combat Unique Monsters
Crea is full of strangely cute yet vicious monsters. Slay them to gain valuable materials for crafting.
Mod Support
Fully developed, modding is simple enough for beginners but flexible enough for advanced mods with unique gameplay changes. Mod support has been a focus from the beginning and is now fully developed with the entire game engine exposed to Python, a real scripting language.
It's also looking for help getting onto Steam via greenlight.

Interesting! Like the Art too! Mod Support with Python makes it even more attractive :D
Also someone should mention that is currently on a 33% off Sale and is available for $9,99 or with some extras (Soundtrack & Artbook) for $20 :)
BTW: There is another 2D Sandbox Game coming down the road to linux. It is called "Darkout" and like a "Survival"-Starbound where you crash landed on a dark harsh planet and try to survive. It has some fancy grapics. IMHO the best graphics I have seen in this genre so far. Check it out here: http://www.darkoutgame.com/ or http://store.steampowered.com/app/257050/ Unfortunatly it is not available for Linux yet and the performance with wine is very poor :(. But it's on the roadmap.
