Haemimont Games & Paradox announce 'Surviving Mars', a management strategy game
By STiAT, 15 May 2017 at 7:06 am UTC

I want this. Rather sooner than later. Glad it will be coming to Linux (it's paradox afterall, and they have a history of succeeding with their ports).

That is a game I could really love.

Quoting: LinasWow, that's quite bad. I was planning to get myself an RX580, but with this performance level, even a modest NVIDIA card would beat it.

Is it as bad with all the games? Would it be possible to run something like Mankind Divided on AMD graphics?

I have an RX480 (with MESA) and it works really well with games like Tomb Raider, Dirt Rally or Payday 2. There are plenty of benchmarks on Phoronix for you to check if you want to get reassured ;)

I really like this game. It's a lot of fun.

Don't really care for MP on this as there's lots of other games with that and ppl are usually not playing the objective anyway.

Yeah. I love the idea of RTS games, but I'm rather terrible at them, so they're not much fun to play. Turn-based strategy is more my thing.

This seems to have a pause button :D

Played the first a lot so I guess I'll buy it just because Linux.

We lack a squad(team up with buddies then join a server. As opposed to joining a server and hoping you can play on the same side) based shooter, this would be the perfect candidate...

This looks great, I'm definitely getting this one.
I love the "bright futurism" aesthetic so much. Sounds like it's going to have a lot of attention to detail too. Can't wait.

Quoting: obedlinkThere's another games that doesn't run on Mesa; Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition.
I hope it will run soon.
It already does. The shim will never and should never be incorporated into Mesa because it's not an actual bug. The developer needs to fix something on their end. But chances are slim of that since Larian really doesn't seem to care for Linux at all, given their track record. Less so for Mesa users since we're a tiny sliver of the already small Linux market. It's also likely they no longer have a Linux developer given their post-launch silence and no mentions of Linux support for their upcoming sequel. But you can definitely play the game if you want to.

I just finished it! Good game. I played with a Steam Controller and it worked pretty well even though the game requires very precise pointing.

In one of the last stages in the ice caves, the stalactites were a bit too hard. However, that part was reasonably short so it didn't ruin the game. Game took less than 5 hours but I haven't tried for all the achievements.

Gameplay was smooth (Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti). Graphics were nice and I liked the storytelling. Good port as far as I can tell.

If they're not serious enough to just build for all platforms from the get-go, then they won't be serious about supporting Linux regardless of how many +1's are thrown in their faces. Game buyers should only have to pay with money, not with additional e-begging points.

Quoteif enough people would request a Linux version

Those are the "suckiest" reasons. Enough? What is enough? Only a fraction of the people ever get into a place to request anything. An average "request" thread doesn't even get enough attention to cover the cost of a tweet, let alone a port. It's basically one of those easily made statements that can only lead to no.

Do you know what it can working in this case?
Maybe this developer (one of few) collect Linux request and in next he asking about permission his boss or ask about this game publisher. If he show him many Linux request, he can make agree for Linux version - but this is only my hypothesis.

Doesn't hurt to head over and at least say +1 let alone post your reasons for wanting it on Linux. The developer on the forums has been nothing but kind and helpful so far. Do I wish games would just come on over to Linux ? Yep I sure do but at the moment we have to work for them. Your options are to fight and claw for the games you want or to buy it and play it on Windows. Hopefully one day it changes.

Square Enix is selling Io-Interactive, developer of HITMAN
By Whitewolfe80, 14 May 2017 at 10:00 pm UTC

They have a history of this they bought Eidos Interactive Ltd and then turned round and sold off the Rocksteady brand to WB. Io Interactive is one of the last old Eidos studios. Square own the IP rights to Hitman and long as it is Square that are supporting Linux and not Io then it should not effect future ports.

I will throw some money at them, just to show them that Linux gamers pay for the games, even if they are released late. However it's worth to have in mind, that this game was already available in humble bundle for very cheap (it means that such a game won't create colossal income).

However I am very pleased that the game was released to Linux and I hope our library will grow even faster!
