Marek submits patch series for threaded Gallium to Mesa, boosts performance in games

Looking forward to some benchmarks here.

currently the AMD FOSS drivers are sitting around 20% behind the binary nvidia drivers. This is part down to game centric optimisation and also something odd with AMD's Linux GPU drivers being a bit more CPU centric.
(i think this patch is to deal with some of that current limitation if im not mistaken )

creeping forward another 10% is starting to make it directly comparible with the nvidia driver and that after all is just a bundled up version of the Windows driver.

Good times ^_^

Quoting: meggermanSuch a shame Thrustmaster & fanatec wheels don't work on Linux. They are generally better than the Logitech wheels imo.

And too expensive to buy one in the hope that I can reverse engineer a driver together.

I picked up the Steam Link during the last sale (it works great even over my WiFi). I wish the percentages were reversed there so I could get a second Steam Controller on the cheap. :D

If you want to get the most out of this game (because it has a more realistic simulation than dirt 3 or showdown) you need a steering wheel with force feedback, because it's designed to be played with one

If you want to get the most out of this game (because it has a more realistic simulation than dirt 3 or showdown) you need a steering wheel with force feedback, because it's designed to be played with one (you can play of course without it but it will be much harder to understand what is going on, I'm referring to tire-road physics, weight distribution and so on). Dirt 4, coming out next month I think (although I don't know if it will have linux support), will feature a selectable physics engine, with a simulator one for those who enjoy a realistic car handling and physics, and a simplified one (similar to the one in dirt 3/showdown) for more casual players.

The developers of Mantis Burn Racing are open to bringing the game to Linux, if there’s enough interest
By ShabbyX, 11 May 2017 at 8:31 pm UTC

And where do they look to see who supports it? In case they look here, it's definitely something I would enjoy for local co-op!

25.7GB? :O

This will take a little while to download. I look forward to playing it though, and I'll probably pull the trigger on the purchase too now that it's within reasonable reach for me!

At least they are reaching out and communicating in a positive way! That's more than what most developers do.

Great. at least they are open about it.. so +1 to developers.
I can agree with them that its sometimes hard to deliver Early Access titles to all platforms and ensure everything works, specially if you are small team.
lets hope it will be fixed sooner rather than later though

WolfQuest, the simulation game where you can be a wolf, has a Linux build now
By Hedaja, 11 May 2017 at 7:02 pm UTC

mhhh
right now it only seems to be possible if you own the game. Otherwise it doesn't show up in the steam libarary and therefore you can't opt-in
Or am I seeing that wrong?

Edit: confirmed by the developer. He said the Linux version still has quite some issues so he doesn't wanna put out an official Linux demo

I was referring to the RTS's that kind of feel like / play like the good old Age of Empires series. With lots of medieval armies and whatnot. But on your list are a few games I wasn't aware are out for Linux / aware of at all. Will check them out!

Awesome! This looks like a very significant boost to quite a bunch of games. I hope it gets deployed to the mainstream driver soon and we get to see it in the repos. Better performance is always good, specially for gaming.

Quoting: FeistHuh, long ago I was very fond of an arcade game that was called "Super Sprint" and later I also enjoyed "Death Rally" on PC. This looks similar to both of those and I don´t think I have seen someting like it on linux, so I´ll certainly add my voice to a porting.

If you're looking for a Death Rally type of game, BlazeRush is a good one. Performance is solid too.
