The latest HITMAN Elusive Target is now live on Linux
By pb, 8 May 2017 at 6:51 am UTC

Quoting: DribbleondoIf my theory is correct, then Season 2 might be coming to Linux on Day 1. The way Hitman: No subtitle is designed is like a portal, with new stuff coming every now and again for ALL platforms. I would expect Season 2 to follow that logic, otherwise, you're leaving the Linux folks out in the cold.

Even if Season 2 won't be just a bunch of DLCs for the current game, it will at the very least be on the same engine, so yeah, should be day one probably. One would still hope that they re-enable the past elusive targets at some point, maybe only for those who didn't have a chance to try them yet - this way latecomers (including Linux players) could still enjoy them but the others wouldn't be given a second shot, as per design. As it is now, we are not able to unlock some of the suits, for example the ones requiring completion of 10 and 13 elusive targets, when Linux players will only have had access to six such contracts in total.

I like that in a world dominated by digital distribution we still use the term "gone gold" when it's highly unlikely then that they produced a "gold" master cd for reproduction ;)

But then we still use a floppy disc for the "save" icon even though most PC users today properly never seen one.

Quoting: pb"This target will be in Sapienza for 11 days and is one of the final three Elusive Targets to be released for the first season of HITMAN."

Well that's not a very good news for Linux gamers. I've played Hitman since the Linux release and only had a chance to do three elusive targets (four with the current one), missing the previous 20. :-(

I would expect them to up the texture resolution - looks muddy atm. Also the mouse character's voice seemed a bit off in comparison to other voices... but other than that, looks decent.

I had a dream about this yesterday and what was announced was Titanfall, lol. It's EA though, so nah.

Chainguns are a trademark of mech stuff, so if it's not DoW 3 it would indeed be a huge surprise. Maybe it is actually Doom like some said, and Feral is doing a reverse psychology thing making a lot of people believe it's DoW... We'll never know.

Honestly , the voice acting is great. The game looks , at least from the trailer, like a cheap asset flip thrown out there.
Will hold off on a sale and more reviews.

Just played on Stalker mode for the first time; it's a hell of a step up from Voyager! Wolf packs everywhere! Hyperthermia is an actual problem, and frostbite seems to be as well (fortunately never got that though). I survived 5 days (vs months in Voyager).

Quoting: GuestAny ideas when this game may go live? I want to play it but the prospect of yet another character wipe keeps me from jumping in with every update. I keep it installed just in case, but pretty sure I'll just wait until they stop with the character wipes before I start really playing.

Still a way to go. The last ever character wipe and go live date is July 17th. So, nearly 10 weeks to figure the game out and decide how you want to play it.

Looks like Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope for Linux will be coming soon

Quoting: bubexelYes, there is latency. About rbdoom3 i saw a screenshot of it working in extended mode. But on direct mode crash. Maybe only works on extended mode.. no idea.

Btw, vive on linux is not evolving, nvidia driver vulkan beta with direct mode won't compile on kernel 4.10 without patching it manualy. They didn't update the driver patched, dunno why. That driver is a must to work with vive. Valve is updating steamVR but all patches are for windows, directX. Zero stuff for opengl, vulkan and linux. I'm glad to know that serious sam team is pushing it at their way. Thank you guys! :*

The README on Github needs updating, the Vulkan beta is old news. The necessary extensions have been folded back into Nvidia's main driver tree as of 381.09, which works with up through 4.12.

And SteamVR is getting updates on Linux, just not as quickly, because the slimmer library means there's less exposure to catch bugs. They're currently looking closely at the latency issue.

Somewhat off topic, but answering this: If a friend has not made any purchases on Steam, then they cannot Add You as a friend. But you are still able to Add Them as a friend, and they need to validate. That makes you Friends on Steam. Until your friend reaches the $5 limit and then they can make friend requests for themselves.

Quoting: GuestHello,
i am using an ATI graphics card and MESA 17.02 under Ubuntu 16.04. Unfortunately, I get the error "SIGSEGV(11)" every time I launch the game after the launcher. I can only see the loading screen for a few seconds. Does anybody have the same problem?

Which mesa version do you use for playing the game successfully?

Thanks

What card exactly? Can you try running it from the command line to see what other errors it spits out?
Also try the Oibaf PPA to see if a slightly more recent Mesa version will help.

OK good, tried to install it yesterday and from the official website got the same problem as Liam. The AUR had a bunch of comments saying it was broken so I didn't bother. I will give it another shot later.

Looks good, I have not played an MMO in years.

I have purposely held back from playing this as well, although I purchased it a year or more ago. Played it for a couple hours and liked it a lot. This is exciting news! I have a feeling this game will be fantastic!

I added a new account (for a kid) to my friend list, but it was very tricky.

I have a steam group. I was able to find and join the steam group with the new account. Then I could invite the new account as a friend or vice versa, don't remember.
