Some thoughts on becoming a mummified redneck in 'Immortal Redneck', a pretty good FPS for Linux

"Immortal redneck", you say?

Have you, perchance, seen "Bubba Ho-Tep"? It's a fun movie.

FWIW while there's limited space for the talks, the beer festival is open to all afterwards!

The talks will be pretty hardcore dev focussed anyway (but will be uploaded afterwards), so if you're more interested in saying hi to devs then come on down to the festival instead.

Quoting: NanobangPerhaps worth noting, too, is that Ziggurat and Pharonic are part of a larger Milkstone Studios Complete Collection bundle:
  • Little Street Racers

  • White Noise Online

  • Zigurrat

  • Pharonic

  • White Noise 2

Normally priced at $51.95, the complete collection is available for $19.71 through May 1st. Note too that all games Milkstone Studios have created are available to Linux gamers --- so everyone should consider showing a Linux love and loyalty by seeing if there's room in their library for one, some, or all of these excellent games!

Thanks for the tip. I had Pharaonic on my wishlist, and the other games look interesting too and all except White Noise Online rated very positive, so I got the bundle.

I remember the first two quite warmly, although I also do remember moaning about them back in the day, so will wait to see some reviews and probably buy it. In the meantime, I just spent the budget for games in the big cardboard boxes for the Discworld Series :O:S::D

I'm a big fan of "Heretic/Hexen-style" fantasy FPS shooter - Ziggurat. And at 75% off, that is a good price.

I picked up Beholder in the last few days, which is 55% off on Steam. (Discount lasts until 30th April.) Not played it yet, but it looks interesting.

Dota 2 has massive changes to matchmaking that should give better games

Quoting: Guest1) you can remove the phone number without a confirmation sms, well you made an useless protection
Wrong, you must confirm removal of phone number through Steam Guard (e.g. Steam app or E-Mail).

Quoting: Guest2) you require a code from a sms sent to the old phone number to remove it, we have a problem because maybe you want to remove it because your phone got stolen from you, it was a prepaid and surprise the mobile operator doesn't care and refuses to replace your sim with a new one having the same number (I have this particular problem in my country with all the mobile operators if I use prepaid and prepaid is actualy the cheapest option for someone like me that doesn't really uses a phone). Good luck with steam support...
You're just constructing scenarios. Furthermore your statement is also wrong: Phone numbers can be removed by SMS (obviously), Steam Guard codes from the Steam app, and even your E-Mail.

Quoting: GuestYou need players that don't spend a single cent in moba games, without them the game will have same fate as Strife. Such players don't lose much if their accounts are stolen. And accounts can be lost mostly in 4 ways: [...]
Adding your phone number does not cost any money and there's still unranked. I highly doubt that Dota 2 will have the same fate as Strife or other MOBA's.

Quoting: GuestAnd because I don't like being forced [...]
You're not forced into anything at all, there's unranked still. I don't want to offend you, but I think you're just overreacting a little.
Whatever, you're free to not accept the change, though I hope I could clear some things up regarding the phone reset stuff on Steam.

Quoting: Guesthttp://steamcharts.com/app/570 the numbers from here, if real, suggest that Dota 2 has hit it's peak in feb-mar 2016 and is losing players since then.
That's as usual. There are always peaks when a new Battle Pass is released or there is an The International.
Examples: 2nd August 2016, start of International 2016; 5th Oct 2016, release of Fall 2016 Battle Pass; 26th January, release of Winter 2017 Battle Pass.

I've played this for about two hours so far and despite me being a bit clumsy with the controls, I am really enjoying it. My only criticism would be that the levels seem to be a little short. I'd like more opportunities to buff my character before I go into battle with the boss!

Linux gamers on Arch may want to hold off on updating due to openssl breaking some games (updated)
By lejimster, 27 April 2017 at 10:16 am UTC

I havent played any games since the update. But it did a number on Spotify also. Looking through the comments on AUR I had to install some compat packages and update Spotify and it was working again.

Arch can be a blessing and a curse. I like it for getting the latest performance and dev on my GPU tho.

Phoenix Point from the original creator of X-COM is now crowdfunding on Fig
By qptain Nemo, 27 April 2017 at 9:47 am UTC

Quoting: WorMzyLooks good to me!

I do hope the battlescape isn't too restrictive like the modern XCOM games, the original system of TUs and free fire gave you much more freedom -- from destroying walls and hedges to create alternate routes, to choosing when and where to take your shots, to saving some TUs for the chance of getting reactionary shots.

I hope the geoscape is similar to the originals too.
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes. Yes.

Quoting: HoriLOL there's literally just one single person on this site (at least amongst those who are part of the statistics) that uses a 32bit distro. Good job dude, IDK how you can survive with that, but good job!

Hey, calm down, I'm still using my 32 bits atom-based laptop, just not as a main platform (and I am OK with not getting any new games on it).

He might have his reasons, although I agree that using a 32 bit distribution on a 64bits CPU is probably not a good idea, unless you have very specific needs.

Project Zomboid has another major update with tons of bugs fixes and new map items
By anewson, 27 April 2017 at 8:48 am UTC

I still play it occasionally, but I found playing on public servers was a letdown; everything is looted and the infection is advanced.

A ton of respect for the devs and how active they are, and I know there are bigger changes in the works (the animations update), but it's hard to believe "updated microwave UI" should be the focus over the actual gameplay UI, which is clunky, and tweaking the mechanics (like how you have to nail about a billion windows shut before you get carpentry up, which is important lategame). Great they're squashing bugs though.

That is a rather strange game to encumber with drm like Denuvo, it's not like the masses of pirating teenagers will throw themselves at a point and click.

I enjoyed both previous Syberia games very much, so looking forward to this... once it's out on Linux and fixed up a little.
