Civilization VI for Linux updated with the Spring Update, no cross-platform multiplayer yet
By Pecisk, 24 April 2017 at 1:39 pm UTC

I even didn't expect there to be cross platform multiplayer - this means I will buy CivVI ASAP as it was major hurdle for me. Thanks for bringing this on spotlight!

Space colony building sim 'Maia' has another massive update
By Pecisk, 24 April 2017 at 1:24 pm UTC

Quoting: razing32I like the concept of this game and want to buy it but I am hesitant as it is still in EA and I am very torn.

Considering it is 'mocking about' simulation game, fact it is in EA doesn't work against it - it is quite fun to see all mechanics simulated and playing out, even bugs are fun.

If sim games is your bag, it is a good buy. I like where developer goes with it. Sometimes EA is not a bad thing.

X Y Z Location, Z,X Rotation

X, Y and Z are each counted as two in this case.

QuoteOne memorable moment for me was near the start, after doing some exploring I came to an area where I could hear crying. Upon further exploration I found what looked like some sort of grub, sat in what appeared to be an egg, the only grub left and it was just sat inside, crying.
Are you talking about the small green caterpillar-like critters trapped inside glass jars? You have to save them! Break the glass and they'll return happily to their village that you'll encounter not too far from the start.

Or something like the Bethesda games were you have a FPS/Third person shooter with RPG elements to spice things up ?

If the community would come up with something like Wasteland 2, I'd appreciate (and play!) this, too.
But I was dreaming of the full modern monty, huge open world, "next-gen" graphics, FPS/third-person view.
"Open source triple AAA", if you want.

Well for it to be truly open source , I think you would need an engine built from scratch.
Not sure how much work that would be. I am thinking a pretty huge project.
Then you need all the content creators.
Not saying it would be impossible but I cannot fathom how you would coordinate a team that big. Most people would have to donate their time.

The early Tomb Raider games were much fun. We worth replaying again every few years. I wonder if there is a an Open source for Indiana Jones and the infernal machine?

I didn't watch the video, so maybe something's missing, but if it's like Descent (as I expect it is), you have x, y, z location as well as pitch, roll, and yaw.

Mainly I mean something new that doesn't look like it's from the 2000's (Whatever last decade is called.) or even 90ies. Let's dream: Something like the next Fallout.

Feral Interactive have released a new teaser for a Linux & Mac port to come

I really hope it is. How long does it usually take for Feral to move the game from "soon" to "very soon" and etc.?
I don't understand why people think so. It makes absolute no sense, because it is nearly impossible that Feral would port this game. This developer and publisher already ported the first part to Linux. How likely is it that Feral now makes the port for the second part? Very unlikely.

This is about solving a riddle and not about what you personally want.

I personally would love to see GTA V ported. If I search for 茶 and GTA V I get a lot results. Also the 茶 looks like V - somehow. It's GTA V! Hooray, Hooray!! Excuse my sarcasm, but it's just too funny.

"A riddle is a statement or question or phrase having a double or veiled meaning, put forth as a puzzle to be solved. Riddles are of two types: enigmas, which are problems generally expressed in metaphorical or allegorical language that require ingenuity and careful thinking for their solution, and conundra, which are questions relying for their effects on punning in either the question or the answer."

Ahhh. I'd forgotten about this one. I've got the "Overload: Teaser Demo," I think, but have yet to play it. At some point I'd love to see a comparison/overview of each of the six-degrees-of-freedom games available on Linux. (I know of three others: Descent: Underground, Sublevel Zero and NeonXSZ spring to mind, though there may be others, I'm sure.)

Quoting: QantouriscI counted only 5 degrees of freedom:

I've always understood the "6 degrees . . ." to be UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, FORWARD, BACK. Maybe it would have been more accurate if they'd called it "6 directions of freedom."

Quoting: EikeI always got mixed feelings with recreating stuff we already have, just in open source, which doesn't even result in something completely open as it still needs the assets. I mean, of course it's impressive, but...

In regards to needing the assets... that's not, technically, true. Someone could create a whole new game with completely new assets running on this new open source engine. OpenMW is trying to do just this. There is a secondary project to develop assets and a small demo game using the OpenMW engine that doesn't use any of the original Morrowind assets.

I will admit, though, that this isn't as exciting an idea as it may have been even five years ago, given that Unity and Unreal Engine exist and are both cheap enough for most any developer.

Still though, my point is, the assets aren't strictly required. Someone could create their own.

Maybe we're overthinking it. The picture suggests reads as cha = tea > iced tea, made to wade = swimsuits, therefore the game is Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball.

Or looking at the more literal symbology of the logo for the Macha tea company. Macha also relates to Celtic mythology, as the goddess of war, and there is an upcoming game from Ninja Theory called Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

I expect percentage to be higher than among Windows users. People who reject DRM can use Linux itself for similar reasons.

I don't, and many of those who avoid DRM also don't. Since buying on Steam proliferates DRM based approach.

When it comes right down to it, all currently available methods of finding out overall game sales market share of Linux are pretty crappy.
But, this won't matter nearly as much if Linux desktop market share grows to a size where we don't have to obsess over tenths of a percent.
