Diluvion, the deep sea exploration game with RPG elements is getting a Linux beta
By Beamboom, 20 April 2017 at 12:23 pm UTC

Another quite mediocre release with bland reviews getting a Linux port to squeeze out those last dineros out of the project. That's how I see it, unfortunately. :/

It looks pretty cool, though. I'll give it that.

That looks ... nice! Very, very nice. Third "person" underwater action with strategic cutaway noodling. I'm intrigued.

My one hesitation with this beta, as indeed with all Linux betas on Steam, is I simply don't want the purchase to count as anything but a Linux purchase --- but to be honest, I don't know if it would or not. I've been following the Brotherhood lads as they work to bring STASIS to Linux, but I've not bought that either, for the same reason. Now I'm wondering if (and frankly, hoping that) I'm all wrong and buying these games but only playing the Linux beta will count as a Linux purchase. Could someone please enlighten benighted old me about this?

According to that, Windows warns users: “Your PC uses a processor that is designed for the latest version of Windows.” – ROTFL. I’d be glad to see some references stating that Intel purposefully designed their processor for a particular version of this particular operating system.

They could have been just a little bit less insolent and at least write something like “Your PC uses a processor that your version of Windows was not designed for” or sth similar. Microsoft never stops delivering in their marketing trying to form reality into one where everything computers-related happens around Windows.

They updated the DRM free build on Humble back on the 19th. Good on them for getting everything out at the same time.

Feral Interactive have released a new teaser for a Linux & Mac port to come

Quoting: MasterSleortJoking aside (for some other joking...) Now we have to come up with excuses as to why they haven't leaked it yet. It could be that they want to be sure that Feral can actually deliver. Imagine they went out and announced The Witcher 3 for Linux again and then failed to deliver once again. Better to keep it a UFO at Feral and let it disappear in the hopefully very unlikable event that it (whatever it is) could not be ported to Linux.

That gave me an idea: Feral is giving hints so widely interpretable in their radar so that they can relate them to another game if the current port doesn't work out. :D

Hey guys, bencelot the developer here! Just want to say thank you for writing this article, I really appreciate it. And I certainly welcome comparisons to GTA2, it was a huge inspiration for me!

I also wanted to say that as of this morning the release date has been pushed back a few weeks to May 23rd, 2017. I've been getting too much valuable feedback from the demo and I want to give players the best starting experience possible. Anyway I'll shoot you a message over Twitter so you now this is me.

Hope to see more linux gamers soon! Try the free demo :D

I second the endorsement of the Humble Wild Frontier bundle. I adore Gods Will Be Watching and Renowned Explorers, FRONTIERS seems promising (and it does have a Linux build, although I'm not sure if it is behind and how much) and I'm sure you have already heard good things about Hard West as have I.

Massive FTL fan here. 150+ hours. I've finally unlocked all the ships too. It'd be good to find something that is similar, importantly with good gameplay mechanics, lots of strategy, and the ability to pause the action to prepare orders.

Quoting: Mountain ManIf they had done their job right, they could have had the Linux version out yesterday. When will developers learn that trying back into a Linux port is the wrong way to do it?

But Doom runs better than most ports. Much faster and more stable. And the steam hardware survey identifies wine. But as good as no one plays under wine. Except it is a wineport.

We have to wait, but it could be that with Vulkan simply no more ports are needed. That would be quite great. Perhaps Valve can automatically port the games in the future.

EDIT: The bad thing though is that the publishers do not provide support. But just by not doing this it could be very attractive for them to publish there games with Vulkan. ;)

Doom performing same as on Windows isn't surprising since the driver is the same...

The guy you quoted wasn't talking about ports, he was talking that if they had written game from the ground up with cross-platform in mind, the game would work very well on all platforms. Simple as that :)

Ask Bethesda why exactly this is so (see "Doom" ). At this point any assumption that Vulkan support means imminent Linux version is just wishful thinking and nothing else.

I'd be curios if they ever add a dungeon in the Ocean biome.
Also mods working on Linux would be even better , Tremor and Thorium have a tone of content and are compatible with each other (or they were when I tried them)

Ashes of the Singularity almost has Vulkan ready, doesn't have Linux on the radar right now
By m0nt3, 19 April 2017 at 8:19 pm UTC Likes: 1

Quoting: STiATActually, they always said they'll look into it after the Vulkan port. So I'm not surprised, but I hoped they had it on the radar by now.

Though, it will be now quite some time after the full release and some expansions.

What I'm questioning myself: Why the Vulkan port if there is no plan for Linux? Porting from DX12 (which they currently use) to Vulkan if you don't release ashes on linux makes zero sense, except they have some other games in the queue on that engine and want to get rid of Microsofts proprietary API, and probably have plans for using MoltenVK or similar for the Mac Port (okay, they could do Vulkan to be able to have the Win7 user base on the same API as the Win10 user base, which would make sense too). I mean no offence, the more developers gather behind Vulkan the better for the open API, because I still have hope that Vulkan will prevail.

If they ever complete Vulkan support for their engine, there may be a Linux version some day. Though, they'll be using MSVC, thus - there will be porting work because we all know that msvc is sometimes different and away from standards compared to clang/llvm. If they didn't use sdl2 or similar it gets even worse, if they don't had platform abstraction in mind when they started.. uff.

Because DX12 is locked down to Windows 10 and Windows 7 still has the greatest marketshare? Just a thought, since vulkan works fine on windows 7.
