I originally wanted to support this dev. But if they're pushing Linux down the list. They will be going down on our list. Right to the bottom.

But Doom runs better than most ports. Much faster and more stable. And the steam hardware survey identifies wine. But as good as no one plays under wine. Except it is a wineport.
We have to wait, but it could be that with Vulkan simply no more ports are needed. That would be quite great. Perhaps Valve can automatically port the games in the future.
EDIT: The bad thing though is that the publishers do not provide support. But just by not doing this it could be very attractive for them to publish there games with Vulkan. ;)

Quoting: Mountain ManIf they had done their job right, they could have had the Linux version out yesterday. When will developers learn that trying back into a Linux port is the wrong way to do it?

It may work on Wine, but I won't buy it to run on Wine. So irrelevant really.
The todo list does sound like a case of an endless one. The funny thing is, maybe if they port the game, they would automatically address some of the stability issues.

Depending on Wine with Vulkan titles is not helpful , just hurts.
Just don't "buy" titles without Linux support.

I must say I am disappointed :(Nope, we locked that down on GOL ages ago too, pretty sure I emailed you and everyone else asking if we could change your username. Special characters get in the way of certain stuff we might do in future.

I guess it is a step toward unified (G/L)OL logins?
Did you consider a mechanism similar to OpenID? I am just wondering...
But thanks, I will check that out.

To disable the fps lock, go to Steam\steamapps\common\Downward Demo\DownwardDemo\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Engine.ini
and add
[/Script/Engine.Engine]
bSmoothFrameRate=false
Works on Windows with the demo.

Your enthusiasm is contagious, and I'm going to re-examine this game (which has been on my wish list for a while now.) Do I misremember there being a combat element to this game as well?

Morning reading updated:

I'm really looking forward to this, Liam. There are a lot of general Linux blogs out there, but I've yet to find one that I enjoyed reading day-after-day for any length of time. I think Life on Linux will change all that!

Nice Liam, will check back on that site now too ;)
For the login stuff, I am a big fan of OpenID, so maybe you can lookup that and integrate it in both sides. Would be awesome.
Other than that, good idea and I hope you get it all managed.

I bet the developers are quite chuffed to have their game compared favourably to GTA2, I haven't tried the demo yet but just from the trailer it's going to be in my bought list very shortly after release.

Didn't find AI the problem. I am finding the whole game design to be the problem.
I am playing as Carthage, but game feels like if you had SC2 and all you could build was zerglings, roaches and queens. And zerglings and roaches were also workers.
The game has just too few things and is really monotonous. Sure, I can chose two mercenary posts. But since I can have only TWO mercenary posts, I can never mix enough of mercenaries. So I am building archers and spearmens, archers and spearmens. One elephant, two siege weapons, a few javeline horsemen and archers and spearmens.
There are even not any nice upgrades (that would change how game is played), walls sucks as you can't properly use terrain to your advantage (WTF units crossing hills?), ships were barely working the last time I played it, elephants sucked as the most common units everyone can build are spearmens and archers, which have bonus or what against elephants.
And town that you build while playing does not feel like real town, like what is the results in Age of Empires, where your cities look nice.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyGuess I should really give it another try. Have a bad taste in my mouth from last time.
Years back I fired it up, figured out the interface a bit, built a couple new farms and a couple of javelineers or something, and just as I was starting to get the feel of that a bunch of enemy warriors showed up out of nowhere and wiped out my village. The numbers weren't even close. So I was like "OK, if my attempts to start figuring out how to play are going to be interrupted every five minutes by being wiped out and having to start over, I have other things to do," and haven't yet been back. But things are probably quite different by now.

I kind of find it hard to look at. I don't think I have colour blindness, but just for reference, this might be worth a look.
