Good name, bookmarked, registered. Anyway i feel it was not a good move to split from GoL, i would have prefered a find of "portal" all in one, as i said in comment here and on Patreon survey.

On a side note.... I like that you started the gaming segment of Linux Voice with 0 A.D. and The Battle For Wesnoth!
Quoting: eloThey are also 100% separate sites, so they are not one and the same :), so it's not an essential feature.Well, they are a family of sites now, and those usually share the same account, like the Mobile Nations sites. I hardly ever log in nowadays, but it would be nice to have the same account. But it's even better that it is not being half-baked!

It's still difficult on anything prior to Debian Sid.

Quoting: liamdaweQuoting: ProfessorKaos64Hmm, I'll have to revisit building this. Had trouble in the past, even on Arch Linux. I'd love to get an early build up for Debian/SteamOS.I just followed the basic instructions for Arch on the GitHub and it compiled fine, so perhaps this has been improved more recently.

Quoting: eloIt is a priority to look into post-launch for sure, just in reality it is only 1-2 minutes of people's time until then, so while a very minor bother, it shouldn't affect things too much :)Quoting: liamdaweso it's not an essential feature.
Thank you so much for the reply!
Considering that I've seen more people than me already recognizing the lack of shared accounts I think I would consider it an essential feature - or at least a very important one as the community is likely to be rather shared between both sites.

EDIT: I don't want to be too mean as I think the new project is really cool! I just hope this one feature will be in place (securely and proper) rather quickly :)

I like the idea of LifeOnLinux. I do support the idea of advertising on your sites. It will bring in additional income to better support you. Those that don't like advertisements probably have adblocker in place anyways. Thank you.

Quoting: eloAwesome, can't wait for the bridge to be in place (it really should have been from release). Having two accounts for what I would consider one system seems silly. However, I'll be reading and enjoying it :)Well it's actually quite a bit of work to do one properly and securely. I would rather research it properly than do it half-baked.

Quoting: STiATHow about crafting in game? I usually play eiter PvE or a crafter. Is it possible to focus on gathering/crafting only, or is crafting a 2nd citicen as it is in most MMOs?Crafting was actually given a big boost in the big patch, as gatherers now have their own set of armour and such to unlock: https://albiononline.com/en/news/gatherer-gear-explained

Quoting: Mountain ManI was pushed back for some years by the "alpha" status as well. Till I decided to give it a try, said that the "alpha" status is just a formality to mean that they still want to add content. The game is very polished, and playable, with good amount of content, and game play, even multiplayer working! So if the "alpha" is what's pushing you back it shouldn't, the game could be released tomorrow as a "finished" game and anyone wouldn't complain actually. Not to say it kicks the ass of most of the "early access" steam game on content and playability.Quoting: mas886This game is really amazing. I'm still waiting for someone making a Lord of The Rings mod for it.I'm waiting for the game to actually leave alpha. It has been in development for nearly a decade, which is notable in and of itself since open source game projects tend to be abandoned after a couple of years, but I'm still suspicious that it will never really be finished.

Cloning from git right now. The official website looks interesting, though it puzzles me as to why they explicitly list all those commercial games, and have patreon links, etc. I'm asking this as a totally clueless noob, but wouldn't that draw the ire of Sony et al.?

Quoting: buenaventuraI liked Undertale alot, it was really funny and moving, and surprising! I just wanted to contribute that you can use qjoypad (available in ubuntu repos, and probably elsewhere) to map the keyboard buttons to your gamepad (works with my SNES-like one). Useful software!Antimicro is another popular choice for this task and the one I prefer.

There's just so many improvements that can be made, they're not planning to go into Beta until they've finished with all the feature development (they're planning to just bugfix in Beta, so maybe Beta would be quite a short stage? Imho once they reach Beta you can bet on a release fairly soon, relatively speaking) which could take forever if they keep on thinking of new stuff yeah, but I can understand that it is nearly impossible for an open-source project (as awesome as this one is) with little funding to keep up with current proprietary game quality. Perhaps they should just jump to Beta, release, and patch from there (they could do fairly big gaps between releases (other than bugfix and balance updates), longer than between Alphas so that a metagame can develop over the course of each release) but perhaps they don't feel that it's really release quality.
I know they were planning to do a sequel once they've finished this game but imho they should release a Beta for 0AD sooner than they seem to be planning, ditch the sequel idea and just focus on making 0AD a great AAA-quality competitive game with regular balance updates and much less regular big feature releases.
Imho they should go something like this:
Whenever-its-ready: Instead of releasing Alpha 22, release Beta 1 (package version 0.1)
Every month: Release a new Beta (package versions 0.x)
When vast majority of bugs gone/bug-wise it's release-ready: Release 0AD Season 1 (package version 1.0.0, use semantic versioning for future releases)
Over each Season, make bugfix releases as (x.y.z) z updates and balance changes as y updates (if both in one release, release as a y update)
Every year or every two years - make a new Season (x update) with all the non-bugfix/balance changes they couldn't include before due to release policy. This should be forked off the master branch of development (where all these changes should've been pushed) with a few Betas and RCs released for stability (as x.0.0-beta1, -beta2, -RC1 etc)

I also played a lot of it during early access when there wasn't much to do. I crafted the best armor and weapons and stopped playing, as that was about it.
The game is so much better now, but I couldn't get myself to play it, I lose interest after 10 minutes.
