They probably wasted their time with this, we all love wrapped games now remember. As long as it works and all. Icculus will vanish into distant memory doing native ports like loki did. He needs stop this rubbish and start wrapping everything fast and cheap, so we can fill steam with glorious penguin icons.

Jokes aside, it's a good game! Glad they did this.

*tips his hat to them* ^_^

I wonder what changed to make this happen though, as if I recall correctly, they previously claimed that it was some middleware that prevented this from happening previously. Did they replace it or did the middleware become native in the mean time?

:D:D:D! Boy, has the last four weeks been a great time to be a Linux gamer! Being a long-time fan of turn-based games, I bought this for Windows ~16 months ago. Would have played it more, but that would require booting into the annoyance that I found Windows 7 to be. Now, I don't have that excuse!

Its a shame than gaming in Linux still sucks. The r600 driver is still not good enough. Luckily I have windows too.

wierd requirements, an AMD HD6450 matches the recommended requirements but an HD5870 is not even up to the minimum requirements... anyone has tried to run the game on a system with low/medium end graphic cards? or on FOSS drivers?

Quoting: MikeOh I didn't see Liam hadn't played it before. You're in for a treat, this game is so unique in many ways and incorporates a number of genres: strategy, sim, management, rpg.

Don't ruin the game by telling him who they reveal the enemy is at the end.

I believe that he's played to original UFO: Enemy Unknown though (and the OpenXcom port), so he'll know what to expect. Saying that, he shouldn't expect too much. It's a fun game, but it's very "dumbed down" compared to the original games.

It's damn difficult though. If a soldier dies in your small squad, he's dead forever. If a soldier dies early on in a mission, followed by another, that's pretty much game over. The easiest difficulty is still pretty hard, I recommend this to anyone playing the game for the first time. No point in playing for 8 hours then losing, it's like FTL but more frustrating in that sense.

Does someone know how it plays on Radeon?

It Seems AMD May Still Bring The Mantle Graphics API To Linux
By fedso, 19 June 2014 at 11:46 am UTC

I found an interesting article on how features are added to OpenGL (http://www.openglsuperbible.com/2014/02/28/opengl-origins/) and it seems quite a slow process and I wonder if OpenGL is really a good choice for gaming considering that Khronos seems focused a lot more on other technologies (WebGL/CL, OpenGL ES...) and that AMD and Apple (both promoter members of Khronos) could start boycotting/damaging OpenGL to help Mantle and Metal gaining traction...
Hopefully there will be some news at SIGGRAPH in August, after all the articles about how OpenGL sucks and the new APIs from Khronos members I think they really should try to reassure developers that OpenGL has a future.

If I remember correctly, they've promised this port for this summer, right? So that puts them two days ahead of schedule. Way to go, Feral, you deserve major respect from the gaming community!
