True..but give the fact that most people are able to use a screw driver to replace some NIC or graphic adapter, building such a "couch table" is not too hard to do. You most likely find matching wooden case boards in the your local hardware store (eg. 80x25 cm, 80x30cm) and then only need to screw the table feets to the board with four screws each.

Funny enough we decided to build this table a while ago when Valve announced the Steam Controller and we both like the idea of "couch gaming". :D

I love my Roccat keyboard and mouse, but your right @tiger the price will dictate whether this is a winner or not. It's a good idea but not an all together new one

I really wonder what is so new about such a product ?

I build myself and my colleague a small wooden table (80x30 cm) with four metal feets (about 30 cm high) which enables us to play games with an ordinary mouse / keyboard on our HTPCs.

Depending on the material you choose this costs you around 20€. Pretty hard to beat IMO....

Idd, I run SteamOS with and AMD Radeon HD 7850 right now an a lot of games don't work at all or have really weird bugs on SteamOS that don't happen on other Linux distro's. One game even completely kills the driver, meaning that image on the screen won't change anymore, untill after you rebooted the system. I know of no game that runs smooth on it, not even 2d games. AMD has a lot of work to be done still, currently don't even try it if you actually install SteamOS to play games.

Valve Are Heating Up Linux As They Greenlight More Linux Games
By pb, 13 June 2014 at 11:34 am UTC

The real question is, how many of these games are going to deliver native Linux version right from the start and how many are just using Linux as a leverage to get more greenlight votes.

Actually you can create games without programming with things like Construct 2 & Clickteam's tools. They are visual drag and drop stuff and people have made some impressive stuff with them.

Making a game is not difficult, the difficulty depends what you want to call a game. A simple asteroids type game or a simple puzzle game is still a game you don't have to think of something like a Call of Duty to be a game.

Who said they're easy to make?

There is much more to a game than access to a decent engine.

I'm with you. Making a game (even with an engine) is a very difficult task that requires a lot of programming experience and knowledge.

I didn't mean it like a walk in the park, but it's far easier than it ever has been thanks to the engines which is more my point.

Update time guys! Please remember that this is SteamOS in it's default state, so AMD's beta driver that fixes some issues with the witcher is NOT present.

Note: I've read online that the black screen issues can be fixed by changing sound to ALSA, but rather than doing that (modifies default SteamOS blah blah) I disabled all SteamOS sounds, and surprisingly that seemed to help, though it might have just been luck.

The witcher 2 runs on my rig at 60+ FPS on Ultra*. The only way I could get it to consistently launch (black screen otherwise) was to have all depth of field options and ubersampling disabled. With that config every once in a while (1/3 of the time perhaps) the game will black screen on launch causing me to exit and restart the game via SteamOS's easy "game quitter."

I have only testing the Arena and Tutorial modes, as both times I tried to launch the story it crashed. Tonight I will try to launch the story without skipping the cut-scenes and see if that changes anything.

Tonight I'll also be filimg myself playing for proof :)

Quoting: FTWIs SteamOS a rolling release?

Yes, or at least how Valve has implemented it so far. I personally cannot use non-rolling distributions.

Which wine version? Proprietary drivers?actual wine and actual proprietary drivers. I can tell the exact versions next time I'm on my machine.
As I said, there are some glitches, but (from my point of view) very few.

Wish I could say the same

What kind of setup do you have, that you can run it? If I may askUbuntu 14.04, nvidia GTS250, wine with some winetricks (mostly to get steam running)

I generally prefer a controller, but for some games it's a must. Definitely a good invention.

Considering that the indie storm is happening mostly on PC, while consoles are driving the gaming industry, I don't think a substantial crash is possible.

I own one computer with an AMD GPU for testing purposes, it's definitely improved in 2014, and hopefully we'll see even more improvements in the future.
I prefer my Nvidia rig by far, but I've been able to run all games I've tried on it so far (mind you, I'm at uni with my Nvidia, so I haven't been able to test any games that came out in the last two months)

I've actually heard from a couple of sources that the Linux version is actually running faster than the Windows one. Can anyone else attest that?

BTW, I wish GOL had polls so we could get a better idea of that kind of thing. It would also be useful for that whole Witcher 2 is slow/OK discussion.

Quoting: BeamboomI think it's far, far too many strategy games on PC.

Funny that my perception is that every other game that is released for PC (consoles too, for that matter) is a FPS.

In any case, even as far as strategy games go, ever since RTSs came into existence, TBSs have become less common, so I'm loving this small resurgence.
