You can activate mod option (folliwing the macosx documentation). The mods are downloaded to .steam/steam/userdata/****/ugc/referenced/....
modify /.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/Sid Meier's Civilization V/steamassets/assets/ui/frontend/mainmenu.lua commenting --Controls.ModsButton:SetHide( true );

and finally put the mods (unziped, the .civ5mod are zip) to ~/.local/share/Aspyr/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/MODS

Happy modding.

Quoting: GuestCestarianI would have liked to see fglrx performance too just to compare.
I routinely switch between Mesa and fglrx on my desktop, using a 6950. Mesa is typically around 90% of fglrx performance, depending on various details (e.g power profile).
90% of fglrx's performance, but far more stable? Yea, I'll take that.

If you go to the CIV V Steam forums (linked several times above), you'll see post after post of rapturous thanks from grateful Linux users.

To the Devs:

This is how a Linux port should be done, and I congratulate your team for their hard work. It is apparently running well on a variety of distributions, which is what Steam for Linux games should do.

Now. I saw on your website that you have among other games you've successfully ported to the Mac two that I wouldn't mind seeing ported: Bioshock Infinite and Borderlands 2. If this is something that (a) your team could port, and (b) is economically feasible for your company, you have heard a suggestion.

I hope that you make a goodly profit from this, and, hopefully, continue porting games for our platform. You may have noticed that we Linux users are HUNGRY for great games...

Thank you so much for the support! We've been doing native ports for a good long time (over 17 years) and I can honestly say we have never recieved this kind of positive community reaction. We are ear to ear at the office....seriously.

So with that said, you've hit the nail on the head. If its economically feasible, we would be proud to bring more AAA Linux titles to a community that is this positive and engaged.

If you go to the Eador:Masters of the Broken World Steam forums, you'll see post after post of complaints for releasing the game with only a wine wrapper, and no replies (yet) from the devs.

If you go to the Witcher 2 Steam forums, you'll see that the dev responsible for the much-criticized wrapper collecting bugs, on Github yet, in a sincere attempt to fix the problems.

Three games, three kinds of responses from the devs. There are bound to be wild and wooly times with Linux gaming; it's still early days. However, two of the stories are happy ones.

Alienware's Steam Machine Fully Announced, They Aren't Using SteamOS
By berarma, 11 June 2014 at 5:36 pm UTC

No surprise. Notebooks were supposedly going to be a successful market for GNU/Linux, but the one I bought had a crippled Windows version instead. Why did vendors preferred to sell their netbooks with a barely usable crappy OS in their machines when GNU/Linux was a much better fit?

With Steam is going to be worst since Windows has all the Valve game releases and GNU/Linux has just some of them. Most gaming users don't care about what's running behind the games.

Getting us on par with Windows may take several years, SteamOS must survive until then and Valve has to convince game makers to port their games. By then, most probably SteamOS isn't event GNU/Linux anymore and not even half free. The fight between MS and Valve is for market control, MS has an OS but lacks the game catalog, Valve has the game catalog but lacks the OS. Whoever wins we will loose.

Quoting: AnonymousHow can I install it. I'm using radeon 7770 ?
What distro are you running?I'm running Ubuntu Gnome.

Righty, after a bit of reading the things you will need:

Ubuntu 14.04 as it provides Linux 3.15 which is a must have.
According to this Ubuntu will have mesa 10.2 very soon. For now you will have mesa 10.1.3 but I'm sure within a few weeks you should get these sort of numbers.

Getting mesa should be a simple case of going through this.

From the steam forum, it seems that the game window appears on the monitor which has the (0,0) coordinates. You could use absolute positioning with RandR to put the origin on the correct monitor.
That's a wild guess, but worth trying IMO.

or did you mean it was released in 2008, and you bought it in 2010?

I never buy graphics cards unless they are used. Retail is too dodgy and expensive in my experience.

Quoting: FutureSutureHI am pretty sure he meant Nvidia's proprietary driver, although I most certainly do not disagree with you.

I knew which driver he was referring to specifically, I was asking for his definition of what constitutes "proper drivers" as that was the point I was debating. I am not that aloof.

I bought all the DLC that I had not bought on the Humble Bundle offer. I had already got Civ 5 the main game before that, so I guess even with the discounts, I have still payed quite a neat sum to these developers.

I will repeat my gesture when the next Civ comes out, which is quite soon from what I understand.

Define your "proper drivers". A real argument could be made that the only "proper drivers" on Linux are those that actually rely on the "proper" Linux graphics stack, therefore making all binary blobs painful kludges that weld on a huge chunk of Windows in an effort to try and cut down on "proper" engineering time and in the end results in less "proper" system integration and less "proper" code access. "Proper" can be a difficult adjective.

@hardpenguin I'd guess because they do have existing work (like an engine) and the skillset on Air. Though, a lot of those who used Air in the past are starting to reconsider.

Quoting: AnonymousYou know you could report that bug to them if you didn't already.

It's obviously all over the Steam forums - including the step-by-step guide to fix it. But in my opinion that's beside the point here:
The point is that you just don't release something with a bug like that. You don't. You have a Q&A that catch such things on their first hour at work.

When you purchase and install a game, you expect the friggin' keyboard to work.

Quoting: hardpenguingbudnyhardpenguinMacs always come with NVIDIA card on board, so it is a bit more standarized platform than Linux (install on any hardware, yay!)
I think that you did not to have a chance to use own Mac computer because you did not tell the truth about graphic cards. From my point of view, they sell computers with Intel, ATI, and Nvidia graphic cards. I did not notice any standardization in this case, and I say this as a Mac and Linux user.Omahgad, you are right, I just noticed that. I once was on Apple's website and all models they suggested to me were with NVIDIA on board ;3

THEN THERE IS NO EXCUSE, LINUX VIDEO GRAPHICS DRIVERS IMPROVE NOW

There actually is an excuse, the graphics stack in OSX is a lot different to the one in Linux, and, so to say, a lot easier and way more polished. It's getting better nowdays with AMD, Intel and Valve trying to improve the situation, but that takes time.

You only need to verify game files if you installed the game in the initial hours after it was released. Everyone else who installed after they fixed this issue doesn't need to do it.
