Liam, could you please contact them and try to get them to clarify whether this will be a native port? I don't think many of us are in a hurry to preorder after the Witcher 2 debacle.

Quoting: S BrookDoes not seem to work on any games, even the suggested test one, on my system. Running Fedora 19 with both Firefox 29.0.1 and Google. Everything installed OK, enabled the plug in which shows up in the Add Ins list as Unity. But whichever site I try, I just get the Unity3D has crashed errors :(
Many games do not work. But I just tested Race The Sun and it still works very fine to me. Report any problems to Pipelight developers/community, I am sorry but I can't provide you any support.

No Problem, I only wanted to try an FPS game on Fbook. Browser based FPS are not as good as installed games anyway, so I'll stick to my old favourites :)

I bought the 2nd, got terrible performance (I can run Metro LL in 1080p 60FPS). So yeah, eON can suck my sticky balls. Will never, ever buy anything eON shit wreck again.

Yeah, I figured that out quite soon. I was spamming the button just to make sure I get into the game when there is a slot available.

Interstellar Marines Tactical & Future FPS Is Now On Linux
By Ilya, 7 June 2014 at 4:10 pm UTC

I've played more than 4 hours. Not a single issue. One funny bug though: when I type 't' (chat) it automatically inputs a '-' in the chat. Just funny, doesn't actually change/do anything. Runs at 80fps with some falls to 60 when there is a lot going on (all settings on and ultra high except amient occlusion). Ambient occlusion makes it drop to 30fps for me. Not sure if that's linux or just my graphics card.
Played a few games with some of the devs today, they are really nice people. And they even finished the linux version in time!!! They weren't sure whether they would get there in time, but they did. So big applause for them!
Of all the (Linux ported) games I've played so far IM and GoI are my favs: the devs are friendly and helpful and I've had no issues with the games.
Compare that to 7DtD ... still no linux, unfriendly, unhelpful devs. I like their game idea. But seeing how they react I'm sorry I ever gave them my money. They remind me of Phil Fish, except I liked him. He clearly couldn't handle criticism very well, and said some awful things, but as someone who can't handle social situations very will I kinda understood him. The 7DtD team is exactly what it sounds like: not just one person. They went overboard IMHO.

Back on topic.
I've never played a game with such dynamic maps (floors that move, day/night cycles, doors that open/close, lights that can be destroyed). Their maps are beautiful! The second gun made it a lot more fun IMO. It's rather sorry that there's only one gamemode that runs on the servers at the moment (capture points, with a twist). They previously also had capture zones and TDM. I'm sure we'll be seeing those back in the future.
Their updates are regular and although they may not add that much (at least not the things people are asking for - grenades, moar guns, night vision, etc) when they add new things, these things are finished. Their updates are of good quality.
I bought the spearhead edition twice (that's how much I love them). I really suggest you buy the game (spearhead doesn't change gameplay, it's just a way to give the devs appreciation) and I hope I'll see you online some time.
BTW their next (non-patch) update will be BIG. Really curious as to what's in it...

Quoting: DeformalStrange thing. People hope to get on Linux better port, than on Mac.
Nobody don`t want to know about Mac ports. But Linux get port from Metro last ligth of same quality as Mac port. Witcher 2 get equal ports for Mac and Linux.
So if game get bad port on Mac, don`t expect to get good port on Linux because games get Mac os port first.

Not really, while at this point there are more Mac gamers on Steam, they generally don't have gaming rigs, Imacs and Macbooks usually have integrated graphics and custom built Macs are a rarity. Linux on the other hand is going to be used as a gaming OS when Steam Machines launch, much bigger potential.

Things change, Opengl on Mac is like traveling into the past, so with Linux ports first we have a better chance to be at the same level with Windows. Also the eON wrapper is still under development for Linux, if you want to help improve it for future eON ports, then help the devs. I think they would appreciate it.
Here is the link:

And also yes we expect better ports, if Mac people don't care then it is their problem.

I'm one of those cynical type persons who tend to fear that what I'm told isn't true until I have the damn thing in my hands. I'm also one of those weird people for whom the linux port of the Witcher 2 works quite well. The single core cpu limitation mostly comes up for me in level loading and such, not in terms of framerate, which is usually pretty decent. Really glad to see linux support strongly hinted at.

Quoting: NotToGoingUJustToPostJudging by the number of support posts in PC Game forums that contain the words "update your drivers" it's clear to me that not everyone does. I personsonally don't. It takes ages and it often breaks (NVidia installer just hangs). I do it only when a specific game does not work.

???? I can't confirm that. Not on Linux and not on Windows. Yes some nvidia GTX Cards need old Drivers for some Games (on Windows) but on Linux? No. I use every Time the latest nv cs. driver thats works with the latest kernel.

If the latest nv driver not works with the latest kernel, so i don't update the kernel but the NV driver i did.

No way this is going to be a proper port. And, like I said, I'm willing to bet 10€.

In either case, I'm not really that much into the Witcher series. I just can't stand Geralt. Cyberpunk 2077, however...

TW3 will use Dx11 so we can imagine a real port to Linux.

No way I'm preordering this without confirmation this will be a native port.

Doing a native W2 Linux port would have been an opportunity for CD Project to learn from.
A missed opportunity...

I need to play the Witcher 2 before I can buy this one but I am kind of excited to see it. I am considering the collector's edition but I am not sure how that'll fit in with buying it for Linux. Would I be able to use the game assets from the DVD with a Linux binary or something? ... Hmm.

I am playing trough the witcher 2 now, and will buy witcher 3 at release. I don't think valve nor cd project would be promoting it like this if it was a wrapper as the hardware needed to run W3 in a wrapper would not be realistic.

I am ok with them porting the witcher 2 by wrapper as the alternative would be no port at all as it is a old game and they are currently busy making the sequel. Atleast it is contributing to expanding the market around gaming on linux.

The port of the witcher 2 will most likely still get a few patches that increases the performance and makes it more stable. porting old games by the use of wrappers is ok as long as it works.

I'm really hoping the only reason they did the eON thing is because it's their older title, and since a lot of Linux gamers dual boot to play most titles, they didn't expect to make too much of it. They generally really care about their reputation, their latest live stream showed it, let's hope W3 port will be good.
