Steam Has Greenlit Another 37 Linux Games

Quoting: gg
Quoting: LinasI would take it with a grain of salt. It seems there is a new trend of listing Linux as a supported platform on Greenlight page, but not delivering once greenlit.
i been seeing this as well

Add that to developers being unable to simply say no when asked about linux support in the steam forums... "We'd like to", "We're going to start looking into it", "We're very interested, definitely a possibility!", "Not for now, but we might after the steam boxes are released!". I don't know if a single one of those games has been ported...
They might as well say "No, there won't be any linux support, but we really want everything we say in the forums to sound positive, and we don't want you to lose interest in this game, even if you'll never really be able to play it!"

It doesn' matter anyway. Who wants to play such crap?

.
Quoting: Original ArticleIt is essentially a "match-3" game with a few different game-modes and added extras.
For christ sake this for 28 EUR? Did the @#%#&^ developers of crap games gone really mad?! They don't deserve a #@%$& for such overpriced crap. Indie games are the future, but please, discriminate between crap and what is worth your time and money. lately (2 years) there is so much indie crap it's painful.

System Shock 2 FPS Now Available On Linux
By Hamish, 4 April 2014 at 3:32 pm UTC

Quoting: neffoHowever, my point was that Wine does a really, really good job and porting the game is pointless. (I don't know of a game of that vintage that doesn't work - but I don't tend to replay old games.)

Pointless to you as you do not replay old games, but not pointless for those of us who do.

Further, I have quite a few old games which either flat out don't work (Dark Forces II for instance) or have some critical features missing (such as basically any game that relies on DirectPlay).

As I said though, I do grant that the effort of porting them may not be justified for the developer, but if that is the case then they really should release the source code for the games anyway, as they have just demonstrated themselves that they no longer have any proper business case for keeping the games closed.

FaeVerse Alchemy Released On Steam Early Access For Linux
By JIghtuse, 4 April 2014 at 3:00 pm UTC

Wow, it is definitely overpriced. Few days ago developers of this game gives away free steam keys for linux users, I took one. I found graphics pretty, but gameplay is pretty unbalanced now. I can't solve the first level.
Gameplay is a mix of match 3 and 2048.

Quoting: Evil PenguinFor some reason with Source 1 games and Natural Selection 2, the games has pretty significant stuttering.
I'm curious if that's a side-effect of using the DX9 to OGL translators.

Have you try to set the frame rate at the same level of your monitor Hz? Dota 2 stutter a lot with vsync enable, when i set max_fps 60 no more stuttering.

Star Conflict Space MMO Launches On Linux, Finally!
By , 4 April 2014 at 1:37 pm UTC

Quoting: minjTried it out yesterday and was not overwhelmed to be honest. I tried PvP and PvE missions and maxed out the synergy of the first ship. However the action was not as engaging as I'd hoped it would be. A lack of purpose is noticeable. It's not really a MMO like TotalBiscuit mentioned. Perhaps it's all about the sector mode?

I was not impressed with the interface either. Map is confusing, match-making takes too long, support links don't really work and a quick search did not yield any links to an official knowledge-base for advanced concepts and options.

Not noticing I managed to spend all my coins by auto-replenishing some 'special' ammo I had to equip in one of the challenges :D

Needless to say I'm anything but a hardcore gamer ;)

It's not as polished or popular as something like world of tanks for sure, but I find it enjoyable...but I agree matchmaking does take a bit. I'm assuming lack of player base.

Good question! Valve's ToGL's performance isn't bad, though, so something like that isn't something I automatically frown upon.

https://forums.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?1136-Unreal-Editor-in-Wine&p=9275&viewfull=1#post9275 makes it sound feasible OpenGL support will be achieved sans ToGL-type libraries, though. [Gah, this site mangles the link sorry.]

they have native opengl afaik. otherwise >50% of their development targets would depend on converting.

also, editor seems to be platform independent and completely written in UE4. which would make code editors and IDE connections as probably only show stopper. i would assume that problem will be rectified really soon since they offer open source.

hmm, if this news came out a little later i wouldn't be in trouble to decide between UE4 and LW now, lol.
