It's really sad that they aren't making Linux a core platform because I love the developers work and the style doesn't bother me at all. If they had said they would do a port but more money would mean a quicker port that would bother me less.

Serious Sam 4 Action Packed FPS Coming Q4 This Year For Linux

Quoting: philip550ci have played every serious sam game all the way through co-op, really enjoy them. Serious Sam 3 was the best game when steam for linux first came out. Very excited about a new one. I hope its not in the desert again, I enjoy the tropical setting of the first games more.
Actually, the very first Serious Sam game was set in the dessert...

Not that I personally ever really got into any of the Serious Sam games. People say they bring back the classic Doom formula, but there is a lot more to Doom than just shooting lots of dumb enemies in vast but still surprisingly linear courtyards.

It probably is more fun as a co-op game though - and my only experience with them is admittedly only with some of the older ports that were never properly polished.
I remember the first desert one I just meant there were two tropical ones that I liked more. And yes doom is a better game and I think duke 3d was better as well but this game is great for beer and LAN parties.

Quoting: scaineI can't stand Wine. I've had precisely zero success with it, except for a vaguely disappointing success with Half-Life 2 years and years ago. I'm not interested in investing hours of my time for a second-rate experience. If there's no native client, I won't be buying it.

What games were you trying to run? WINE for some games works great. For example I played:

  • Wolfenstein (2009)

  • WoW

  • Pirates of the Carribean (akela)

  • Risen 2

  • Guild Wars 2

  • Skyrim

  • Diablo 3

all on MAX details using WINE just to name a few. Using playonlinux makes wine really easy to get into, and with a little tweaking, games can run great. Abit if you have a rather low end system or aren't willing to tinker a bit, WINE is not for you.

I've done some updated builds, with new kernels..
Check the homepage or forum..

In all builds, PSX, Dreamcast are supported..
Some are extra packages in repo..
But PSX, N64 supported out of the box..
Dolphin can be compiled of course, like any other program..

And of course, any Windows emulators can be used,
if you install WINE from the repo..

Wasteland 1 The Original Classic Survival RPG Heading To Desura, DRM Free Fans Go Wild

Quoting: Crazy Penguin
Quoting: GNU_DawnThe linux version on steam is already drm free. At lease I can move the files and launch the game without steam open in the background. That counts as drm free in my book.
Sure it is DRM-Free! It's not possible to put the Steam-Stuff into an old DOS-Game :D. The "linux version" is the DOS-Game bundled with the native Linux DOSBox binaries. Which doesn't count as linux version in my book :D
Actually it does not use dosbox. I just checked the files, and no dosbox anywhere. So it is a genuine updated port, with no drm.

There are a number of games (not many) with no drm on steam. There is an (incomplete) list here:

http://steam.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games

Actually I think I am mistaken. I just checked the license file and they do mention dosbox. But I still get the impression that this is more than a simple dosbox release. There have been a lot of upgrades.

I'm not sure that it's always the case. Somehow Steam managed to poison Loom for example, that it's not playable in ScummVM. At least that's what I've heard (I'm not using Steam so I can't verify that).

You can read why the steam releases of loom (and other lucasarts games) don't work with scummvm here:

http://sev-notes.blogspot.se/2009/07/steam-releases-vs-scummvm.html

Basically an updated engine is used in the steam releases, and it is scummvm incompatible. Compatibly could be added, it is not difficult, but it won't be for political reasons.

Yeah, looks fantastic! I love how indies iterate, and re-iterate, over turn-based strategy. Too awesome.

Reminds me somewhat of the real-time / turn-based combat switching in Supergiant Games' upcoming title Transistor (which I'm also SUPER stoked for).
