As a civilization and linux fan this is a great news. Will it be a sequel of alpha sentaury? A sequel of civ V, a mix of the two? Or a completely different game? Something from pandora? I wonder how implement this "quests". It seems the orbital layer only is from support. Hope in a future can be space wars, and space stations.
It's a great time to be on linux.
ps:I remember the old rumors about the civV on linux it was close to reality.

I point out that I'd raised this issue with them shortly after Cognition's release. The excuse was the same one given then. And they've been reluctant to give any indication of a Linux release for the Gabriel Knight remake, too. So what did they do?

I have donated to about 20 kickstarters, some did not work like Haunts: The Manse Macabre and a few others but I have no uissie with that simply because to me it feels they where honest and did try. Moebius is so far is the only one I regret.
Although you might find the reason they give a valid one Liam, it was never mentioned on their kickstarter, all that was said was: If we get at least $400K there will be a Linux version. The whole unity 3 vs 4 excuse came later. Then they hook up with Phoenix online who did not even consider a linux version of the Gabriel Knight remake which at least made me go hmmmmm
So yup I feel they did the Linux stretch goal as a gimmick to get us to donate, maybe we get a linux version but that will be more a side product then actually something they really intended.

Yep, it has a few bugs, but it's pretty playable as is. It does crash to desktop after the first level, but I've played the next four with an issue.
Well, not "without an issue". Without a crash, yes, but there are issues. Mainly, on the last level, there are tiles with red half-globes on them, but for some reason, the tiles don't actually support your character, so while the Lumes will run over them, you fall to your death.
And yes, the resolution can be changed, but it doesn't remember the change between games. And the MSAA will vanish all the text in the game, which sadly includes the menu text, so it's probably for the best that the graphics don't remember between games, or that would be pretty frustrating.
The core game though - excellent. Really enjoying it. Polish up the bugs and this will be a hit.

the steam support for better games has started to get better, whereas before it was just offering a load of graphically unimpressive indie titles.i know low graphic quality does not mean the game is bad but the first bite is with the eye so to speak.as i said the AAA support is filtering through and the users will also start filtering through.the end of xp and windows8 debacle is going to start changing things.hopefully sooner rather than later :o)

Broken Sword 1 Directors Cut & 2:Remastered Now On Steam For Linux
By Liam Dawe, 12 April 2014 at 12:22 pm UTC
Exactly, what I write about is 99% true at the time - barring oversights.
GOL is not a steam-only place, but we focus on it heavily because developers do.
Indeed, they new Linux client is being worked on though, once the new Windows version is out the Linux one will be worked on.

Quoting: DrMcCoyQuoting: AnonymousThese Broken Sword games are yet another example of games available through other distribution methodsI just deleted a long rant I wrote here about how the Broken Sword games are not anywhere else.
At the time that article was written, the Broken Sword games were not in the Humble Store. In fact, you couldn't get the games for Linux anywhere else except Steam (and the second game in the Humble Bundle). I know, I checked. (Which is the reason Liam wrote "The Humble Bundle is the only place right now to get Broken Sword 2 for Linux outside of steam".)
This has actually changed now. The games are now in the Humble Store. :)

Seemed to work pretty well for me, considering the warning. Played through the intro level no problem but crashed to desktop at the start of the next.
Looks like it'll be a fun game when it's polished up and a steal at that price.

FYEAH!!!
I found this out on the Star Citizen forums and PAX recording before coming here but YESS!! I had to come here to express my excitement too =) Thanks Liam! Just a tip, if you had time you could have embedded/linked the source for a better article!
Also about pricing, yes Linux games are usually cheaper. Yes, there's rarely games that are AAA in terms of quality and budget on Linux, and Star Citizen is probably AAAA in terms of features and quality imho so it's totally worth it (and savings from having no publisher pass onto us, as well as feed more dev monies!). Yes, Linux gamers are willing to spend a lot of money as seen in Humble Bundle. Yes, the rise of Linux is now! >=D
Quotes (copied from the Linux thread in RSI forums): "(...) by the way, we'll gonna be supporting Linux."
"We'll be on Linux (...) we like it. I think most engineers will tell you that they prefer Linux (...) to Windows actually, especially in the back-end server world." during the QA, right after the ill-informed Sony guy.
1st quote is at 21:45 (already skipped to in that video link above by Jörmungandur.
2nd quote is at 45:20 (question & answer). CR also says "all the major engines are supporting Linux" at [47:25]. =)
