Looks good! I haven't checked, but hopefully it's on the WIKI already and will be up for contention for the next Funding Crowd article.

Also, I see that while Chaos Reborn isn't utterly cruising, there's been another spate of Lords, Kings, Demigods and one further God. But incredibly, there's also been a pledge at "Supreme Benefactor" level, which is a $5k pledge! Insane! And no... it wasn't me! :)

I know... I know what he's trying to say, but it comes out so wrong. "we have to concentrate on the PC version before we port to any other platform" literally means Windows, Linux and other PC OS versions before console, Android, etc. but he's using both "PC" and "platform" to mean "Windows". It's so wrong and not even unusual! :(

Glest is completly dead, so no need to mention it imho.
MegagGlest has a LOT more content than glest!
Just some things:
10 times more maps than glest
18 tilesets(sceneries) instead of only 2 in glest
7 factions instead of only 2
8 player support instead of only 4 in glest
and so on , its really a lot more than the simple game it was originally.

Indeed I tried windowed on KDE which used to solve it on Cinnamon, no dice on KDE I have to switch WM to Openbox.

also with xfwm i can start game in windowed mode and then when in menus i alt+space and switch to fullscreen. no issues with mouse then.. cant do that with marco however.

In KDE it doesn't matter if you use a resolution smaller, it's still broken without changing wm.

I can start windowed and then tell kwin to make it fullscreen, and it does work around the mouse issue. But vsync is still broken then and get worse performance.

What about higher? I'm running ratpoision, no compositing and 1920x1200 on my main monitor with no common issues on Unity games.

i dont know anyone with higher resolutions that have issues with it

Well I only have some trouble with Killing Floor on Ubuntu 13.10(64x with Unity). The mouse not always works and with dual monitor it really is buggy as hell. But I hope that Goat Simulator won't be so buggy.

nope.. it happens for me with marco and and with xfwm as well.

It does look like it's mainly affecting compositing then which is why you most likely don't see it on XFCE.

I don't have the issue, but if you're using Steam, you could probably set the required commands in the launch options for each of the problem games. That would handle changing the WM back and forth automatically for you. I did something similar with AntiMicro to load and unload kb/mouse to gamepad mappings for certain games.

Yes, the mouse jumps in rust. But that is yet another problem lol. In particular this Fix stop the issue that people have with the character getting stuck looking at the sky and having to alt-tab to get the game to respond again. The problem only occurs on some window managers, generally the compositing ones.

They say their engine still has D3D centric stuff from its heritage but they'd like to move away from that (see the slide as well).

I believe that is only because they didn't want to call it GNU/UnrealEngine4.

There are plenty of other "open source" licences beyond the GPL or other GNU licences. I haven't read the UE4 licence in full, but skimming it gives the impression that it would have a hard time fitting the OSI's definition of an "open source" licence.

I have had this issue in every DE except XFCE and unity. In both these DE’s all my games run flawlessly.

Yeah, of course any situation where the earlier games were popular in their own ways and have their own merits so there are gamers wanting them, they should consider them. Fact is though if a newer game is an improvement in most areas over an older one so that there is a lot more demand for it than the older one, chances are much lower for seeing a port since at that point you're talking about a percentage of a percentage. Since Linux now has enough demand to put it over the threshold for seeing some good ports, that first hump has been crossed, but good luck getting over those extra humps...

That having been said, the future will be much different, since now with most big game engines being multi-platform from the start and Linux just being another click of a button, these porting problems will go away and you'll see much easier Linux releasing, no more humps to deal with for the most part.

Except for me and the penguin. God I love Linux. >:3

Much as I love Freespace 2 open, it really doesn't belong on this list. Only the engine is open-source; if you want the actual game assets you'll need to buy a copy. The Diaspora project, based on BSG and using the FSO engine, would be a much more appropriate choice.
