Gauntlet Action RPG From Warner Bros & Arrowhead To Launch On Linux
By loggfreak, 18 March 2014 at 7:08 pm UTC

Quoting: AnonymousReally loved that game. Had to LOL on the last tunes of the video :D

A pitty they go steam-only - I would have bought it for sure.

well i understand why people don't like to go to a closed platform like steam, but really it's by far the easiest way to support all distributions of linux, however i always try to keep the concurrence there by buying from Desura because everyone here knows it sucks to have monopolies, also a reason why i bought amd cpu's, intel's becoming way too dominant in the cpu market, having had no decent performance improvements since the first i-series

Quoting: higuita- Steam identify the user OS by the time it spend more time playing... so a user that plays on both will probably still have it's OS as windows. And again, i have the game in steam, but i haven't yet download nor played it.
I remember reading that Steam consider the platform the game was bought from as well, so if you haven't downloaded it yet that probably count.

Thanks Liam, I find the Linux sales articles very informative :)

That would be great, as I haven't found a package on Manjaro that works to install the fonts yet so sadly I cannot play it :(

Hoary! Dosbox and wine wrappers! (I bet those are the first 100 games because it's so easy to "port") To be serious, I am excited, it's a step in the right direction and I'm looking forward to legit native gog linux games.

Are any of the Dosbox wrapper based games supported on Mac? I have not seen any from a casual glance, and it makes me wonder if they have any plans to do so on Linux.

Regardless, really, really, really, great news! :D

Quoting: higuitaBy the way, how they account the linux sales? linux binary download? humblebundle OS configured? browser OS detection? steam OS detection? every time i see this statistics i ask myself how they know it, and how accurate they are.

All have their problems:
- i have the game, haven't test it yet
- i have humble bundle configure for linux, but i know people that don't care much (and even buy several times from windows machines)
- One can download from a windows to install on a linux
- Steam identify the user OS by the time it spend more time playing... so a user that plays on both will probably still have it's OS as windows. And again, i have the game in steam, but i haven't yet download nor played it.

users that only have linux are easy, as user that only have windows... the problem is the dual-boot users, or users that migrated..

I'm not saying that the 1% is wrong, but really, how a developer knows?

Perhaps they get their statistics directly from Steam (as in Steam provides developers with that data).

Hyper Light Drifter, The Incredibly Stylish 2D Action RPG Has New Footage
By CFWhitman, 18 March 2014 at 4:44 pm UTC

This looks like just my type of game. Somehow it seems to me as though if there had been a Phantasy Star based action RPG, this is what it would have been like. Visuals are reminiscent of 16 bit era games, but clearly better (or perhaps of Legend of Oasis, a 32 bit game). The action looks like some of the better overhead action/RPG games, but with some new twists. I'm looking forward to this.

Hi guys, I'm glad you figured out a workaround for the mouse issue!

I replied to you about this on Twitter, but the missing text issue is caused by missing Microsoft fonts. Once you install them it should work normally :)

I would tell you exactly how to install the fonts, but I don't actually have a linux box to test it out on.

Quoting: DrMcCoyI admit, I'm surprised; I didn't expect that to happen any time soon (or at all). In fact, I'm still suspicious this is an early April Fools' joke.

I expected it to happen in 2014 (but I wasn't fully sure). So I'm very pleased it's happening.

'It has been worth it for us to do Linux support, but if our sales numbers were less, it would not have been'

I dont really understand this kind of statements... its not like sales are going to stop now... games still make sales after launchment... even if thats are their best numbers... they add up. You only have to pass the threshold once, after that its benefits...

Gauntlet Action RPG From Warner Bros & Arrowhead To Launch On Linux
By , 18 March 2014 at 1:04 pm UTC

Uh-oh, semantical arguments.

I personally support any ARPG (or whatever you want to call it) that doesn't have cartoon graphics.

A lack of roleplaying elements is a major con though.

F.I.N.A.L.L.Y.!

I had stopped buying games on GOG (I have a back catalogue there of nearly 70 games) when my focus was to buy games on Linux platform only, and shifted towards the Humble Store. However, GOG is still the reference for DRM free oldy games, and I was missing a bit on that piece of action.

I am glad that GOG have decided to support another platform.

I do not expect them to make all games available, but at least the SCUMM VM and Dosbox games should be fairly easy to package. Also, the recent indie games nearly all have a Linux version.

Now, we can only wait for Windows Live to offer a Linux option... OH wait... Windows Live is dead....

Great news. Really superb. I've been avoiding them for years - I buckled last year and bought Planescape, because there was a great post about getting it working natively in Ubuntu. And last month, I bought Descent because of the DXRebirth project (which is amazing, BTW), but I never considered them for general purchases, because I can't stand wine.

So yeah. Fantastic news!

Same here! I honestly thought GOG had no interest, and were really set on not supporting Linux. I'm surprised at the sudden turn around! This is awesome, and now it looks like I can buy games from them again :D

this was a nobrainer...

I already have bought some gog games and my choices run fine via wine so far

I guess some little penguin icon next to games will help me know in advance if they are going to work

I dont expect them to do much work aside from what work out of the shell... but being acknowledged feels good
