Quoting: KIAazeI still haven't gotten Anomaly to run on my PC, but I'm really happy to see this new fully-DRM-free fully-GNU/Linux weekly bundle. :)
Looks like I will have to try getting it to run again.

Run flawlessly out of the box for me (Ubuntu 12.10 64bit). However, I had some troubles getting Funky Smugglers to work. It complained about not finding libcurl-gnutls.so.4, and since the game is distributed as a 32bit binary it seems to require to 32bit version of that library. In my system I only have the 64bit version in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ so it refused to run. Until I created a symlink to a random 32bit library and it magically worked! The only problem is that the game crashed afterwards once I finished my first play. I didn't try it anymore and I don't have access to my regular PC right now so I cannot test it further.

Anyone else had problems with that game?

Updated the article again to include a new bundle on Amazon's Indie Games section and to speculate about the new Build A Bundle that's coming after all.

Ehem... ;)

By the way, LP's are usually a full playthrough (or a series of videos for endless games like Minecraft etc) rather than a brief look (even if the video is 40-50 minutes).

Just as an aside for the gog purchasers.  You can get a steam key from the unepic site http://www.unepicgame.com/en/myzone.php .  You can get your serial number on your gog games page.  Assuming that once it get ported it will be available on steam.  I know its a round about way,  but until gog lets us get the linux binaries somehow its something.

Anyway, Unepic looks like a pretty cool, and very weird, Castlevania-ish RPG w/roguelike elements.  I've heard it's pretty funny, too, but that the humour is "quirky" (or something?).
I recommend it heartily to anyone. I finished the demo version on Wine (works great!) and absolutely loved it!

(don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it happen. I just DON'T see it happening any time soon or late)

FINAL EDIT: Close enough. August the 3rd, 2012 according to the Wayback Machine.
Hmm, I thought it was much more. In November 2012 I exchanged few emails with Fran (Unepic developer) about the Linux port. It was like:

Quote2012/11/30 ***ME, HARDPENGUIN***
Hello there.

Some time passed since information that Unepic is gonna be ported to Linux got spread. That info is still present in Unepic website. So... How is the works progress? Is Unepic on Linux gonna happen anytime soon?

Best regards,
HardPenguin

Hello,

You are right, I have to update news about Linux.
I the guy that was supposed to port the game did not port it due to lack of time. I have recently contacted another one who could do it, but it asking some money. Since the game did not sell enought, I can't afford this cost but today Steam will say who are the next 10 games to be selected, Unepic is #9 in GreenLIght. If Unepic is selected I will be capable to deal with him and have the game ported.

I must publish this. Will do next monday.

So the facts are: he still cares about porting Unepic and did not change his mind about that. From what we see, Greenlight was the priority and perhaps since the game got it the port will come in next weeks after the game will be released - and not only as Steam Early Access, but full featured version. However, the game won't go outside Early Access until they will finish multiplayer mode (currently in beta).

We are really looking forward for Linux release!

Nope, the sound was fine all the time until it crashed. About the core dump I'm sorry, I was only testing the game and I deleted everything aftwerwards. :(

I didn't know you were involved with AGS, I'll make sure to keep any future core dump I get (and I'll pester you about any bug I find :D).

Hmm... How does that bug work? Does it occur randomly? Because yesterday after testing the Richard and Alice demo I also had a go at Primordia and I got a core dump as a result of some sort of audio crash. I restarted the game and it happily didn't crash at the same point again.

The corruption bug sounds like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrdhuNOOuO8

We haven't seen a crash to core dump due to audio trouble, though.  That's new :(

I don't suppose the core dump came from an unstripped build with debug symbols (i.e., you could fire up gdb on the core file and PM me a stack trace?)

Yep.  GoG.com is not our friend, unfortunately.  Not yet, anyway.  It's simply the best (and often, only) way to buy Good Old Games... but less so, Good Not-So-Old Indies :P

I like their attitude, and would welcome them as another Linux game distributor, should they ever bother to listen to all of the folks voting for Linux support on their wishlist!

Anyway, Unepic looks like a pretty cool, and very weird, Castlevania-ish RPG w/roguelike elements.  I've heard it's pretty funny, too, but that the humour is "quirky" (or something?).

Quoting: s_dMuntdefems, something I didn't notice before is that you've mentioned Richard & Alice as AGS games which need the Linux interpreter to run, but you didn't mention that for the Blackwell Chronicles games nor for Primordia, which are in the same situation.

Well I didn't mention it this time around, but I did for sure in both the #3 and #4 issues.

Quoting: s_dAlso, regarding Richard & Alice, I'm contacting the devs to ask them what tool they use to package those installers.

Thanks! If all else fails, I guess it could be easily installed with Wine but I can't really bother to try it... :P

Hehe, turns out this particular game has been on my list since it was launched on Indiegogo and I always felt bad about not featuring it in the crowdfunding column. I'll try to put things right with the next one.

s_d, rest assured that I won't turn this column into a spreadsheet with numbers and dates (we've already got the wiki for that), I'll only talk about a slightly reduced number of games. I.e. before I made a note for every single campaign that was not outright shit, and then I had to go over all of them again before deciding which ones to pick and write about. This week I've been far more selective right from the start and the current list of noteworthy games is way shorter than before, so I expect to be able to start writing short reviews right away without any further research. But yeah, let's see how this one goes and we'll have time to judge afterwards. ;)

Wow, thanks Speedster! And also thank you (both) for helping me with the wiki! ^_^

So maybe some of you here can check it and vote on greenlight or something. I really don't believe there are only 4 people liking this kind of games.

So, this column is actually for super cheap deals & bundles, but there is a column on this site specifically for promoting crowd-funded game campaigns!  It's called The Funding Crowd.  Fortunately, the same person does both, and may read these comments.  If so, he might add Inverto to the list for the next issue.

Hmm... A Greenlight Spotlight sounds like another useful column.  It could probably be coupled with any new Desura Alpha-Funding games for Linux (since they achieve similar goals in the end).  I wonder if we could convince avarisclari to run a column like that, here, since he practically did it on his blog once already:  http://acbignews.blogspot.com/2013/06/small-news-greelight.html
