ARMIKROG adventure game by the makers of Earthworm Jim and The Neverhood!
By Speedster, 1 June 2013 at 6:19 am UTC

Wow I am starting to take back my skepticism about reaching any stretch goals -- almost hit 40% of goal in the initial 4 days of pledges! Of course things wouldn't have been looking quite that good without the wise decision to start out cross-platform ;)

Edgar,
the Keys are per store, so a game bought on Desura won't get you anything on Mana Games and vice versa.

Massive Chalice: Double Fine's Second Kickstarter Campaign
By Cheeseness, 31 May 2013 at 11:40 pm UTC

Quoting: scaineCould maybe use a link to the campaign? Or is it not live yet?

edit : Here it is - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/doublefine/double-fines-massive-chalice/
Oh whoops. I can't believe I forgot that in the excitement D:

Thanks, muntdefems for editing the post.

Quoting: s_dWow, they're taking a lot of flak from people...
I hadn't spotted much negativity about it (possibly because I'm overwhelmed by the Double Fine community's response. It's hard to comprehend people who aren't just content to not support the project and instead feel the need to say that things can't or shouldn't be done.

Naysayers aside, the project looks to be another noteable one. It's great that DF are finding ways to climb out of the publisher dependency cycle, and I'm super happy that Linux is a focus for them :D

End of May Linux gaming roundup! And other bits and bobs!
By Hamish, 31 May 2013 at 11:33 pm UTC

I would have included Salvation Prophecy on that list myself, as it was only released for Linux on May 6. I have not been able to buy it yet, but I am already convinced it is awesome. :)

The Cheapskate's Corner 3 (May 29th - Jun 4th) (UPDATED)
By muntdefems, 31 May 2013 at 5:47 pm UTC

Updated the article again to include both the recently disclosed Groupees Be Mine 8 mystery bonus game and the realization that the current Bundle In A Box offers more bang than we thought.

Massive Chalice: Double Fine's Second Kickstarter Campaign
By s_d, 31 May 2013 at 4:00 pm UTC

Wow, they're taking a lot of flak from people...

Looks like two major complaints are 1) DF already succeeded with Kickstarter, many feel they shouldn't go back to it, and 2) what does Brad Muir know about turn-based combat (or, how can DF "make a real TBS game" ).

I can certainly see that a slippery-slope emerges by relaxing the standards by which the crowd-funding community vets incoming projects, and that concurrent smaller campaigns can be overshadowed by large, high-profile ones, even though smaller campaigns subsequently benefit from the growing crowd-funding community. Conversely, the "slippery-slope" is considered a type of logical fallacy for good reason. So... a complex issue, here.

Personally, I find it incredibly difficult to attack a project bringing a new interesting game to Linux, from a fun creative team, even if the game concept isn't really my thing (which it totally is!).

Little Inferno now out for Linux is seems!
By Lestibournes, 31 May 2013 at 3:49 pm UTC

It took me about 5 hours to finish the game. It's super easy yet very fun. Just when I thought it was going to become a point and click adventure it ended, which was disappointing.

Expeditions: Conquistador turn based strategy RPG released for Linux!
By Liam Dawe, 31 May 2013 at 3:35 pm UTC

The developers sent me a key for it today, just got a chance to play around half an hour and you know what it's pretty damn good. It's a little bit wordy for my likings but it's early days yet may not be so wordy later on.

The graphics are good, gameplay seems quite fun too.

Have also been added to their PR list so I should get emails before a release pops up in future.

Done. Not only is it live, but it's already gathered 2/3 of its goal in less than one day. :)

Tennis Elbow 2013 released on Linux !
By , 31 May 2013 at 9:59 am UTC

Quoting: ManuTOOAt this point, it's unlikely that the Linux version will be released on Desura.

But, would I get a key that I can use to activate the Linux demo or the keys are per-platform?
Thank you.

jose,
ooops, sorry, I stuck on the "i686" and thought it was a x64... :-S
I'd rather not statically link Libcurl as it may have some specific builds according to the different distributions.

Anonymous,
At this point, it's unlikely that the Linux version will be released on Desura.

ARMIKROG adventure game by the makers of Earthworm Jim and The Neverhood!
By Speedster, 31 May 2013 at 6:53 am UTC

Maybe they read the excellent Cheeseness post on stretch goals? I was really excited to hear Linux is not relegated to a stretch goal, given the rather ambitious main target. We all need to be pulling together to make this thing work.

ARMIKROG adventure game by the makers of Earthworm Jim and The Neverhood!
By FrasierCrane, 31 May 2013 at 6:47 am UTC

I'm also a big The Neverhood fan and I'm happy to see this going along nicely - it's a hard climb but they are already at 35% and I think they'll make it.
Linux support from the get-go is great and important because one can't be sure if they'll reach any stretch goals regarding that high goal (but fingers crossed) and they really need the Linux/Mac support right now, not only after hitting their target.

ManuTOO,
I did not realize you are the game author. I appreciate your effort for giving support even outside your own channels. You got a new customer here.

Just one last question, I promise. If I buy Tennis Elbow in Desura, will I get the Linux version too?
Thank you.

ia32-libs does not make sense on 32bit (i686) linux. i solved it however by downgrading curl. still, it'd be nice to have it statically linked

Edgar,
you won't get updates as well if you share your Key. (Note: there's no online mode on Linux & Mac)

Mike & jose,
on 64-bit Linux, you have to install 32-bit libs, as explained by "Anonymous"...
Something like this might help :
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
If you find the way to fix your issue, thanks to report it.

Quoting: s_dMunt, the URL is working for me, here in the U.S.  Either it's a glitch, or a change hasn't propagated to the U.S. CDN (or to the CDN serving your area).

How about trying a page related to the Steam listing, like the Achievements list?

http://steamcommunity.com/stats/237430/achievements

Yep, the Steam Community links work fine for me, but not so the Store page for this game. I've tried it again, I've bothered to read the full error message and turns out the game is currently unavailable in my region (EU Tier 2). Guess I'll have to wait, then. :(

Quoting: s_dFor those whom do not remember, Expeditions: Conquistadors was Kickstarted last August, with their original release estimate set for January of this year.

Thanks for the tip, I wasn't aware this game was kickstarted. I'm adding it to the wiki, then! :)

I stumbled upon this game a couple of months ago on Greenlight, and had forgotten about it ever since. Didn't know it got greenlit either.

Quoting: Mike FrettI'd definitely be interested in this. Always a nice treat to get away from the super-saturated Pixel-Art games. Yes, I understand a lot of you love them, but I grew up in the 80's and early 90's and have had my Pixel-Art fun already heh ;)

Funny you should say that, I always assumed that pixel-art game lovers were precisely the generation (my generation) that were brought up playing them, and that their haters were mostly teenagers who never enjoyed them and found them simplistic and unpleasant to the eye. It never occurred to me that anybody could grow tired of them... I haven't, that's for sure! :P
