Humble Indie Bundle 8 has been unleashed to everyone!
By Liam Dawe, 28 May 2013 at 6:51 pm UTC
The originals introduced it later on in the bundles and all previous purchasers got the extra games free, new buyers had to pay more than the average.
Now they do it from the start.

Quoting: abelthorne"although it now seems the normal to have a pay more than the average game section too so it's not completely PWYW anymore."I adjusted the article to show what I meant better.
The "pay above the average to get some of the games" has been there since the first HIB if I recall correctly...

While not the biggest of them all, I am a big fan of adventure games and this saga looks pretty good indeed. I wish it was made available DRM-free, though...
Anyway, looks like Amazon is offering it cheaper than anybody else (33% off rathen than 20%). Go to the Sales page for more details. ;)

Heavy Gear Assault heading to Linux

I was initially going to say that if you're worried about disappointment, maybe crowdfunding isn't for you - there are inherent risks even for projects that do get funded, so the best way to avoid disappointment would seem to be to hold off until stuff is actually released. After thinking on it though, it's hard to deny that supporting campaigns which are more or less guaranteed to get funded can still be rewarding to both you and the people running them (though worthiness and certainty don't always overlap).
That said, this sort of approach would prevent any campaigns from ever achieving their funding goals if everybody behaved that way, so it's hard for me to see it in an overly positive light.
I assume most have seen it already, but a recent update for this campaign clarified something about their approach to UT4 and Linux support. It sounds like they're planning to do the port off their own backs and hope it gets merged upstream into something that's officially supported. Not really the most comforting news so far as Linux getting the acknowledgement/respect it deserves from Epic goes.

Quoting: KristianHardly a cause for optimism.Optimism in the face of very large numbers is what makes crowdfunding work ^_^

Quoting: scaineI'm making a stand, not so much "pro-Amazon", but more "pro-broker". I'm sick of adding credit card details to hundreds (only a slight exaggeration) of sites. So I'll only use sites or services that support Amazon Payments, Paypal, or the soon to be retired/enhanced Google Checkout/Wallet. And if another one of those brokers comes along, I'll sign up to that too, but if a site asks me for my credit card details directly, I'll usually go out of my way to avoid that service. How about bitcoin, I'll rather go with no credit card details at all even to those privacy-eroding giants that are Amazon, Google and company.

More clues have been trickling for Groupees Be Mine 8 bundle's last and awesomest mystery game. Let's recap them all:
1) Steam game with a Metascore >= 70
2) Light
3) Will
4) Man?
The game's cover image is being progressively revealed with each clue (I'm particularly intrigued about what could the lower right thingie be):
I've got a strong feeling that all this suspense will be fruitless in the end as the game will surely be Windows-only, but let us enjoy it while we can! ^_^

3rd Party DRM. Last version I played was 2010 on the Mac so it may have changed but they were very insistant that they had to use it (I think it was SecureRom at the time) in order to protect their game. It may have changed.
Incidentally I just mailed SIGame support asking for alternative payment options (I just want a paypal address to give them money and I can get the game data anywhere) but they fobbed me off (expected) saying it was Steam and Googleplay only.
I WANT to give them money, but they don't want to let me. People are weird.

Even so, I never considered not founding campaign just because it doesn't support something sane, like Paypal or so.

Quoting: scaineShame about Realm. I wanted to pledge, but the UK Kickstarter doesn't accept Amazon payments, so I won't be pledging to any UK-based Kickstarter until they do. I've contacted them twice - the first time, when they launched, they replied that they had no plans to add it. The second, about a year later, didn't get a response.Funny that your are mentioning this as I really hate paying through Amazon - they are deleting my VISA card every month with "invalid information provided" excuse while they don't allow me enter my complete info as there is no possibility to match it with USA address format.

Big proponent of DRM by that do you mean 3rd party DRM on top of Steam? Limited installs/authentications? Constant online DRM? Anything like that? or are you only talking about Steam DRM it self?
By Kristian, 26 May 2013 at 10:51 pm UTC
Quoting: mongrolFM is easily the greatest game ever made IMO, but unfortunately SiGames is a big proponent of DRM and no doubt this will be on Steam only with DRM.

Desura to more clearly label third-party DRM
By Hamish, 26 May 2013 at 6:06 pm UTC
What I would find to be better is if they adopted the model YouTube uses of having tree-view comments with specific places for uploader responses (very useful), top comments (less useful on Desura, but why not), and the like as it would at the very least makes things more organized. As it stands they can get a bit messy, I grant you.

Quoting: liamdaweWhile we are at it, I hate their comment system with the weird tree view with comments all out of place, I much prefer the standard one after the other.

As far as I know the only games on Desura for Linux that have DRM are some of the LGP titles (Cold War does not) and the games that are merely store-fronts for Steam keys, such as the ones I have listed in the article. The great majority are DRM free, but that is why it is so important for these corner-cases to be better labelled.
