Linux Gaming DRM Free promises: Do they stack up?
By , 25 April 2013 at 5:43 pm UTC

http://eternity.obsidian.net/ 2nd question in the FAQ section:

QuoteHow will I get my digital copy of the game?

We're busy developing our fulfillment site, where you'll be able to specify how you would like to get the game, as well as provide us with any other details depending on your tier (for example, T-shirt size, or name in the credits, etc.) We support both GOG and Steam for distribution, so if you prefer DRM-free, you can choose the GOG option, and if you prefer achievements, multi-platform play (via Steam Play) and cloud saving capabilities, you'll be able to choose Steam.

If you buy additional copies as add-ons, you'll be able to tell us which one you want per key.

We do not yet have a DRM-free distribution partner for Linux yet, but we expect to have one available as an option by the time we ship for our Linux customers.

Hairy Tales to be ported to Linux if enough interest is shown
By muntdefems, 25 April 2013 at 2:27 pm UTC

There was actually enough interest in a Linux port, so Arges Systems will be releasing a Linux version of Hairy Tales!

I've been contacted by the developers who offered me to be a beta tester. They'll be selecting a few more, so if you're interested do get in touch with them!

The Kickstarter was canceled two days ago. But the reason for the cancelation is good news: apparently the game has attracted the interest of several investors who'll pay for the development.

Jagged Alliance: Flashback a new turn based strategy with Linux support!
By sobkas, 23 April 2013 at 11:48 pm UTC

Gaming on Linux is moving forward, but sometimes I miss those left behind(Loki, LGP, TuxGames and more).

Also posting you know what here, might be not a good idea. It might cause some unnecessary problems. It's only my opinion, please don't treat it as request or something.

There was actually a massive bug with Tux Games; where, if you "order" a game for digital download copy and then cancel the order in PayPal, you get the download link for the game for free.

Worked on JA2, Software Tycoon, Ankh (and 2) and Jack Keane, among others (I ended up ordering everything available) -- some games were obviously DRM'd so they crapped out.

Before you ask though, I had sent several emails about it with no response to any of them.

Quoting: liamdaweYou do not support Linux by using Tux Games, I have seen far too many posts from people not getting their games or waiting months for them. The best way to support this one is to support the Kickstarter.

Considering gog.com sells JA2 for 9.99 and its 26.00 on Tux Games as well...
Fixed.
What I can say, I have a boxed(keep case) copy of native JA2 version from tuxgames. I didn't wanted to be so harsh on them, but You are right, tuxgames I used to know is no more.

Or try a native version:
http://tron.homeunix.org/ja2/ get the source code and build yourself a native version
[removed tuxgames link] (I didn't used it for so long, it just pains me to see tuxgames in such state)
By buying a native versions, you help Linux grow.

Surgeon Simulator 2013 now available for Linux!
By Orkultus, 23 April 2013 at 4:31 pm UTC

This game is pretty fun. A bit challenging at times. Controls have a steep learning curve, but it's pretty fun. I can spend hours just in the menu playing with all the items on the desk, LOL. I really enjoy this one. Just be careful when going to pick up the Green needle; lol...i have messed up a few good surgery's by doing that wrong...lol

Good fun for a couple of hours -- can be incredibly frustrating at times though.

I did a quick video on it here (contains "spoilers", if you didn't already know what the twist was):

I hope they remember, that there are Linux users, who already paid for this game.

If it's really just the porting time, it's ok, though.

Word Play Deluxe word search game is released!
By MyGameCompany, 22 April 2013 at 9:40 pm UTC

Quoting: Bumadarlooking at it its sort of out of my age group, but tried the demo and had a fun time, sadly I could make lots of words in my own language but they don't count ;)

Glad you enjoyed it, but yeah - it's an English-only game! hehe

And yeah, I agree the toy theme probably isn't the best theme to appeal to a wider audience, though there are other casual games on Windows like Teddy Factory, Toy Defense, and ABC Cubes: Teddy's Playground that use a toy theme. The main idea here was to quickly port the existing game with as few changes as possible, so I chose to keep the toy theme rather than rework the game to fit some other theme. Casual gamers usually don't have a problem with the toy theme, but I can see how more hardcore players would. Thanks for trying it anyway! ^_^
