Hotline Miami looks to be heading to Linux!

Literally brought this game a few days ago (seemed like it would work in Wine, which it does... Sort of) -- what are the chances? :P

Steam starts it's own form of Alpha Funding!
By , 20 March 2013 at 9:56 pm UTC

While I prefer DRM free for obvious reasons, I'd put more money into Steam's implementation than Starforce and the like.

I buy on Desura if it's not on Steam, I buy on Steam if it's not on Desura. I buy HiB's when they come out, even if I own most of the games (like the past few have been) and I'll still activate the games on Steam (even if they don't have Steam Linux clients at the time).

Honestly, I just want to play games on Linux. If DRM is attached to that, then so be it.

Wow, that's what I call a detailed answer! For all I know, it could perfectly mean: «Yes, we're actually planning to gather all the code we've ported so far, put in a pendrive, bury it in the middle of a forest and beat the crap out of anybody who tries to get it with a baseball bat, Hotline Miami style.»

I really hope that's not what they meant. :S:

Not so great for those who prefer DRM-free games... :(

With this intermediate step between Greenlight and the Steam Store, an increase in the flux of greenlit games is to be expected. Thus, it's easy to imagine more and more small developers going the Steam way, rather than opting for other platforms like Desura.

I am not actually all that thrilled by this, to be honest. Desura's Alpha Funding program looked to be doing quite well for them recently, and Desura needs the attention a lot more than Valve does. Desura's program does still looks to be a lot more appealing to new or smaller developers than Valve's does though.

Jack Keane adventure game shows up on Desura
By Hamish, 20 March 2013 at 4:25 pm UTC

Latest word from RuneSoft on when the game will be publicly available on Desura:
QuoteYea, we are still working on it and there is already a private beta running (via desura). Just not yet for the public. :)

Steam's hardware survey now shows many distro's
By tweakedenigma, 20 March 2013 at 4:09 pm UTC

QuoteSure There are more ubunteros than OpenSUSE of Fedora users. But the steam comparison is not fair. I would be glad to see stats from Desura for instance.

The best stats are from wikimedia : Ubuntu sers are roughly 40% of the total Linux users, which seems more accurate.

Agreed and I am not trying to say Ubuntu is 70% (that was just people I know) of the market really. Just that this mass exodus people keep talking about doesn't appear to exist. If it did, I suspect at least one of the other Distros would be close as installing Steam on Other Distro's isn't hard.

As I stated before I'm fairly convinced they'll be featuring games from past bundles, and therefore the vast majority of them will be cross-platform.

But it just occurred to me that they do sell a fair amount of non-Linux games on the Humble Store, and that they may be featuring those as well... :S:

Quoting: OrkultusI just hope this doesn't turn into "some just windows only", "some just windows, or mac only".... I would still like to see actual bundles in between weekly sales. I do however like how we will be seeing something every week, other than having to wait a few months.

Indeed -- I'm worried that they will start pushing platform specific games.

I hope they don't, but as I commented about HiB before, their terms for developers to be included seems to have slackened with regards to platform requirements.

Quoting: tweakedenigmaQuote from Frank ArneIt's well known fact that especially during the last two years Ubuntu, mostly because Unity, has lost quite a lot of friends to Linux Mint and some other distributions too (like Mageia). It's very questionable is Ubuntu even the most popular Linux among users today. And surely majority of those Linux users are not using Ubuntu daily, many of us not at all.

I know quite a few Linux users and the Majority probably ~70% are running some flavour of Ubuntu. Granted there has been a vocal minority that have moved on (and really that's the great thing about Linux, the fact we can do that).

Looking just at the Steam Numbers seem to indicate that is the case. Even if Ubuntu is the Primary target, it does work on Mint, Arch, Suse and Fedora and they are no where near the Ubuntu number.
In fact, Steam was built for Ubuntu and is available in the official repository.
For OpenSUSE for instance, you have to install the repository manually or by using 1-Click.

... of course they agreed with it? It's not like HiB just decided to randomly start doing a weekly game sale of stuff they're not allowed to sell.

Not had any gameplay issues (other than I can't control flight to save my life), only "bug" I've had is some text isn't display, but I think it's the Arial font issue on the thread mentioned above. Need to retest.

Noise Reduction

Low and High Pass filters is now in place. Users can enable/disable, set Cutoff Frequency and Resonance. The resulting sound quality is really nice.

That is actually an interesting point there. Might be a way of grabbing certain things I have missed. I already have Bastion though... :|

You're not getting their next game in any case here, so it makes no difference! It's just a postcard.

Are you sure it's $1.99? Because this time I'm certain I payed 1.99€ for it. Not that the game doesn't deserve them, since I find it psychedelically original and challenging, but still.
I could take a screenshot and show you.

if Transistor had "linux" next to it I would go for the big package as that looks really really good.  But right now they just say
QuoteWe expect Transistor to be released in early 2014. We have not yet decided on which platform or platforms the game will be available for.

did not know about indiegamestand, just checked that... 900 sales on that vs 2600 on humble in that short time, bit sad :/

It's true that there's already IndieGameStand for this, but they don't feature Linux titles as often as I'd like (which would be always, of course :P). They recently announced their next 3 games will be Linux-compatible, though (yay!).

Plus, I regard these Humble Weekly Sales as an opportunity to snatch games from bundles I didn't got (because I'm assuming they'll feature games from past bundles, at least by now).
