Legends of Aethereus an MMORPG in closed beta that's coming to Linux

Quoting: dimkoMate, did you get permission from Threegates first?

No, I didn't ask express permission from Threegates -- the video I posted does not show anything they themselves haven't already published and the BETA is available to anyone who pre-orders the game and can experience themselves. If you feel it's justified you can report my video to them, I will happily oblige if they don't want adverts on it (though pretty much every other youtube video of similar footage has ads), but a take down request seems... Unorthodox to say the least.

I don't know, maybe they work differently to every other indie studio I've had dealings with, but I've not portrayed the game in any negative light (no commentary on it) -- I've just shown a small glimpse of some of the actual gameplay -- and surely neutral (free) publicity is always good?

Quoting: SabunThe game looks friggin awesome! Thanks for the video edgley, nicely done
Can I ask, does it already have co-op? If it does, I'll get it with a close friend of mine. We're suckers for co-op games.

Thanks! I honestly have no idea about the state of the co-op right now, I don't know anyone else with it so I haven't even looked :P

What is available in the current build is still very limited, only a handful of weapons / armours and missions. Last time I played (a few months ago) I completed everything available in about 30 minutes.

Also, Linux specific underwear can be seen in the video ;)

No Heroes FPS update number 36!

How can so much talent be located in one individual! It makes me happy yet sad at the same time... My programming skills, 2D texture skills and 3D modelling skills are all low level... Man, looking at this guy's FPS game really makes my own Unity FPS game look like crap...  I struggled with just trying to handle different screen resolutions, and he already has an advanced effects option menu.

Would love to learn how he did the networking with Photon cloud. I definitely look forward to seeing his game released :)

I didn't remove any pictures, there wasn't one there when it was approved by one of the editors so they may have, wasn't me though.

Mumble is open source and advanced already, better participate to it instead of creating another of the kind, especially if it doesn't bring anything new. Still might be interesting for you guys to involve yourself in a project, but well, it has to answer to people needs if you want them to give their money.

Also, Liam, did you delete Lingerie screen? It's a bit upsetting.

I personally use Jitsi, requires a server, but is very awesome and free software!

Yeah, I'm going to stick with Mumble. Open source, works great, minimal footprint and doesn't look this ugly. Also, what sort of free?

But in general, mumble is already there, didn't need an 11k crowdfunding campaign. So, yeah...

Quoting: liamdaweLooks good, I thought it was supposed to be an RPG with co-op not an MMORPG?

It is, or at least that's what it looks like to me :P

It's got a pretty heavy focus on multiplayer though.

By sashadarko, 12 March 2013 at 6:55 pm UTC

Just got news from Linux user that 32Bit version works and completable.
A little tip from engine developer (another game but similar problem): "Setting the player's permissions to allow execution (either from a graphical file manager, or by chmod 755 myPlayer at the command line) should fix this."

I find alot of the maps to be really dark and hard to see. The main city is pretty well lit though.

Quoting: HamishJust to point out, when I say free software, it is because I read Stallman's essays people.

I'll be honest, I can't stand that man :P

Quoting: Anonymous@edgley thats a screen shot of an unfinished product =)

I have no doubt :) However, it is your first impression that counts and right now, that's at the forefront -- as I say, I already know I wont be able to convert my clans admins to switch to anything that isn't Teamspeak; the fact is they are happy with MS Office and the like.

Looks awesome though I posted a video update on it before and have been looking forward to it.

Quoting: OrkultusI still think Mangler is my fav Native Linux (Ventrilo) VOIP client.
Being it's own product, it's functionality is more similiar to ventrilo than the other voice chats available today.

Quoting: SmilexBoth TeamSpeak and Mumble run on Linux, what is the benefit of getting another solution?

Zoftilo will be an alternative. We are also gamers, and we want more alternatives that works on more platforms. We don't like many of the options available today.
Quoting: fedsmoreover mumble is open source

Zoftilo is not open source. But as you can read on the campaign page, it is still free. And not as in max 5 users, more like 20-30 users. That number is not decided, and something people following the campaign is supposed to give feedback on (by mail).

Screen shot is what it is, a picture of something in progress.

Quoting: HamishIs it going to be free software? I honestly do not see the point in promoting an alternative piece of software to one that already works well for me and is free software anyway (which is definitely the best thing for a utility like this).

I am sure many enjoys mumble and other voice chats. I am also sure some wants something different. I know I do. And what I truly believe we all want, is more alternatives for Linux in many areas.

I hope this answers your questions. Our mail is available on the campaign page.

Regards
Mario Lindback

Alternatives is usually a good thing. And don't you all think Linux users deserves alternatives?

Zoftilo is not trying to be "better", just an alternative with minimalistic user interface and very easy to use.  At the end of the day, I believe it usually comes down to a matter of taste.

@edgley thats a screen shot of an unfinished product =)

Anyway thanks alot for checking out the campaign.

More options are always welcome; but I've got to say, the UI looks less than pretty and immediately puts me off.

I also don't think I would be able to get my gaming "clan" to switch from Teamspeak 3 any time soon.
