Torment: Tides of Numenera announced on Kickstarter
By Liam Dawe, 6 March 2013 at 6:52 pm UTC

It's sad as I used to love Chris Taylor when he worked on Total Annihilation & Supreme Commander 1, when it go to Supreme Commander 2 I lost a lot of love for him.

Thankfully we have uber and Planetary Annihilation coming this year :)

indeed, this this will become the biggest kickstarter in 1 day ever, more exited about this then any of the others I funded so far.

Chris Taylor comment about Kickstarter Fatique is sort of blown out of the water by this.  Still sad they did not make it,  GPG deserved better.

Strike Suit Zero is still on it's way to Linux!
By s_d, 6 March 2013 at 6:31 pm UTC

Haha, yes, I did back that project, and continually poked those guys during the unfolding development process. :D  And I was not the only one... the other Linux folks (as well as the Mac backers, actually) joined me in gently reminding them periodically to bring us up-to-date on the project.

They got within $3K of the porting stretch goal at the time of funding the Kickstarter (PayPal included) and kept open their PayPal for a while after the campaign closed, and confirmed that the monies would go toward stretch goals.

And then they stopped updating us on PayPal (which indicated, to me, that they'd reached the stretch goal but didn't want the pressure from Linux/Mac folks until after the main release).  They did state in their update #26 in January that they will, for certain, do the ports... so it's really good for Liam to apply some journalistic pressure on that commitment ;)

Monsters! A new alpha funded game on Desura
By muntdefems, 6 March 2013 at 4:41 pm UTC

There's a preview available for download on the game's website. I tried it the other day and I enjoyed it very much. Gameplay strongly reminded me of The Binding of Isaac but, contrary to that one, Monsters! runs smooooooothly on Linux.

Rochard "Hard Times" DLC Released
By , 6 March 2013 at 3:47 pm UTC

Currently, due to the platform limitations, only Steam version supports separate DLC purchase. Anyone who paid $1 or more for HiB6 have the Steam key for the original game already. We are considering ways to bring Hard Times to the other distribution platforms, e.g., Desura. The Humble Store version has Hard Times integrated and I hope we can find a solution for Ubuntu Software Center as well.

AlterEgo: DreamWalker Now on Linux

How is it possible that they have a Linux port? If a Linux port is possible with XNA, that means Terraria can be ported as well!

Humble Bundle with Android 5!
By muntdefems, 6 March 2013 at 12:30 am UTC

Alright, I downloaded all the games except DD and I've tried them all a little. While there's no exceptional one outshining all the others, I quite enjoyed Dynamite Jack, Solar 2 and (particularly) NightSky. Let's see what other BTA surprises await us...

Humble Bundle with Android 5!
By Sabun, 5 March 2013 at 10:52 pm UTC

When DD wouldn't crash for me, I would be able to play some levels. Problem was that the mana couldn't be picked up, and the mouse was really weird. I couldn't turn around, and the keyboard keys would only strafe left or right. Couldn't move straight or back. I really hope they fix that mess with this release... My old humble bundle 7 page still shows DD as being the old one, no update.

Quoting: SabunOn a side note, my Steam Linux Library has Dungeon Defenders in it now. It's under a password-protected Beta, which I really hope means the developers are looking into Linux gamer's issues with DD. Past several months nothing has been going on in the Icculus bugzilla regarding DD, but today there are some new bugs added and even some resolved issues.

It'd be a real shame if only Ryan Gordon was working on it, without any of the original developers helping out.

There is hope -- I don't think Valve would have approved the Linux BETA if there wasn't some progress on getting it working properly at least on Ubuntu (did anyone ever get it running right after the original bundle with it? I gave up after every other boot up I was forced to watch the entire intro because my keys weren't responding).

Can't say this bundle is particularly exciting, though Beat Hazard and Super Hexagon were welcome additions to my Steam list.

Jon Shafer's At the Gates an empire builder confirmed for Linux

Quoting: flibitijibiboHey Jon,
The upstream MonoGame branch has pretty bad Linux/Mac support at the moment, you might have better luck with my branch:

http://github.com/flibitijibibo/MonoGame

Right now it's a few commits behind upstream, but this is the branch that will be shipping with my MonoGame ports.

If you have any questions, poke me on Twitter @flibitijibibo.
Awesome! Thanks... uh... fliblkjohwthhhhhbpht. :) I'll pass that along to Jonathan and we'll see if that corrects the issue. Do you know if there are any improvements coming to Linux/Mac support in the future? We're new the Mono community (and Linux for that matter), so we don't really know what the status of everything is.

What game(s) are you releasing with the help of your branch?

- Jon

Enemy needs less than $3000 for Simultaneous platform release

Quoting: liamdaweEnemy needs less than $2000 for Simultaneous platform release
You may want to change this title since it's less than $3,000 rather than $2,000, as you correctly state in the article's text. Alternatively, it's only a matter of time until the title becomes true. :D

Anyway I think it's quite feasible in 4 days, but still I'll wait till the stretch goal is reached, just to be sure I get value from my money.

Not to mention the first year of Amnesia stats which listed Linux users as being responsible for 15% of sales on their site, or the Humble revenue aggregated across all bundles, which puts Linux as providing 12% - 14% of revenue share.

3 new bundles with Linux titles in them

For just a few more euros I prefer to directly support them on Desura. Well, at least The Journey Down which is Flash and Steam free.

The developers or Defenders Quest show off Linux sales!
By berarma, 3 March 2013 at 10:58 pm UTC

I've read the whole original article and liked it, not only because of the good news but because of the positive attitude of the developer towards their users and GNU/Linux. That's the kind of developers I want to support when they get rid of Adobe Air. They're sensible to the users concerns and may change that.

There's a comment from Puppy Games staying the same stats results.

By Cheeseness, 3 March 2013 at 8:50 pm UTC

I think an important aspect mentioned in the original article is that this is an Adobe Air title - something that's offputting for many Linux users.

The original article reveals (or tries to reveal) something very interesting about Steam stats as well. Lars seems to be saying that his email from Valve indicates that a user's platform is set forever by their playtime for the first week (either that, or it shifts weekly, but that would undermine the interpretation of this data as "sales").

So far as I can tell, Defender's Quest was released for Linux at the same time as other platforms as well, so they've never had to deal with Linux users buying Windows licences to play under Wine (something that I believe will cloud the sales stats for other games which had later Linux ports).
