Quoting: Mike FrettIf you look at all the Games, especially Humble Bundle, what Linux does have is way too many Puzzle Games. To the point of annoyance.
It's because Puzzle/Platformer are cheaper to make than say an FPS game.

Linux does not have too much of anything, we just need more of others.

They aren't giving away their hard work for free. In a few months they've made almost $100K on sales.

Yeah, I believe you. I think I see now why indie Puppy Games ditched Desura - that's the only way you can get paid if you're below the minimum balance.

Asylum a new horror game
By s_d, 10 February 2013 at 9:31 am UTC

Well, they're halfway there with less than half the time to go.  I agree, the project creator needs to do continuous promotion to meet the goal, but from what I've seen so far, he is doing so.

Probably the adventure gaming community is his best bet.  I must say, I'd love to see a spate of compelling first-person adventure games implemented on the Dagon engine, as I'm an inveterate adventure game fan :)

From what I seen with our games sales on Desura, even when we had an article on Rock Paper Shotgun and were getting over 5K of visitors a day, with people genuinely excited about our game. We still never got payed a lot, I remember thinking at the time, how many games are on Desura that don't even reach the minimum sales before they actually get payed must be crazy. They must be making a tidy profit from other peoples games without ever actually paying a lot of the devs. I doubt many people make much money on Desura except Desura itself. If you dont believe me ask Motorsep from Kot in Action I know he said his sales where also very poor on there when I discussed this with him.

Asylum a new horror game
By jlibster, 10 February 2013 at 5:38 am UTC

@hamish True, although I've seen projects from as little as 5k to as high as 1 million both succeed and fail. Given the quality of production, I'm guessing its what they need. The artwork and voice acting right now I'm guessing is their biggest expense right now (I could be wrong). At the moment their current rate of sales conversions puts its close if unchanged; almost on a knife's edge. Many others are doing a big push right now. Hopefully it will do.. Would like to see a more comfortable margin though. There are still around 1000 $15 discounted game downloads available out of 2000 but many got larger reward sets. Would be cool to see the discount downloads sell out.

@Orkultus: This game is basically a visual novel and contains only very short dungeon crawling sections (best consider them to be a mini game :-))

Half-Life: Blue Shift will be coming to Linux as well
By WienerWuerstel, 9 February 2013 at 10:39 pm UTC

It should be quite obvious that they plan on porting most if not all of their Games to Linux. They are fully commited to the Linux Port of Steam and will do anything in their Power to make it the best experience for us Lnux Gamers. And there's the Steam Box too so Valve wants to have at least their Games to run on it. So that they can show it of and attract other Developers to make Games for the Steam Box and that should mean more Games for Linux.

Steam now has a Featured Linux Games Section
By , 9 February 2013 at 10:08 pm UTC

Quoting: HamishYes, Linux has grown since then, but we are actually not in that much of a different position than we were back when those advertisements were posted. We are just as interesting now as we were then, so if we did not matter then we do not matter now. It certainly has not changed much over the many years I have been using Linux - we have always been there just off the radar, on the cusp of something great. Realizing that has just been harder than many people would have thought, at least on the desktop space.
I think that situation is starting to change now. We are after all discussing this in a post about Steam on Linux. You're right however that there is still a long road ahead.

Dirk Dashing: Secret Agent! Special Edition is released!
By MyGameCompany, 9 February 2013 at 8:50 pm UTC

I did when it first got onto Desura, and a few did, but I'll have to make another plea I guess.

I was thinking if I can get Dirk 1 on there, maybe I could run a sale on it and use Dirk 1 to help drive sales of Dirk 2. That's one of the reasons I've spent the past few months upgrading the first game - so I can use it to drive sales of the sequel (not just on Desura but also other channels).
