Thanks for the comments. Unfortunately a static Linux build is not possible yet but we are working on the packaging for Debian and we try to build for other distribs in response to the users demands.

Edmund's a designer not a developer, platform isn't really his problem aside from asking "Are we on platforms that will make us money?"
Tommy is really the one that should know better, but from watching Indie Game: the Movie, it seems to be that he is the type of guy that pulled himself up by his own bootstraps and f*ck anyone that thinks he is going to lend them a hand.

Hey guys,
I'm glad you are liking how Ensign is coming along.
To be in the spirit of Christmas, I thought I'd give the few GOL members that didn't already have Ensign a copy, so here a few first come first serve keys. Enjoy!
QO414-DCJZJ-GDNHA-ADXYT-ONRIU
JM3J3-XI1ML-HP73E-T52OY-IFONZ
H9P41-94SY3-DK4EI-5SYQV-HYM36
SMPEQ-D5DIH-MY120-ALW1N-BF8KL
NLPQZ-DMFFJ-LB2YA-2AC5T-DM4QH
And Bumadar, in about a week I'll be showing the game off to 10,000 or so people at the MAGFest convention. So it will either be our swan song or a renewal of effort if people enjoy it enough.

Sorry about that. I have nothing against your name, but still keep changing it, hehe. Needless to say english isn't my native language.
Haters try to find excuses to disdain GNU/Linux or make them up. A few years ago some said it wasn't a good platform for games, nothing has changed on that front since and now it's a good platform. I feel we're sometimes treated like loosers just because we don't follow the main trends. Bah...

I should (hopefully) be able to participate again sometime soon, but I'd rather simply donate than use Indiegogo. So yeah. Expect me, or something. Might not be much, but every little bit helps. And I'll keep retweeting and sharing links as usual. :)
Also, I've heard good things about http://www.hostpapa.com/ - but take it with a pinch of salt, coming from self-entitled (and quite a bit too certain of their skills and knowledge) fools. Further investigation required.

And there's more to this - I got the game first via a bundle and then bought the DLC (hoping I'd enjoy playing it - I didn't) long before Steam on Linux was even in beta. So frankly, he'll just use this to confirm his disdain for Linux no matter what. Well, couldn't care less there's a plenty of good devs and good games.

Not even close. Our market share IS smaller. So yeah, ANY game will get less sales on GNU/Linux.
I don't think it useful to post in on formspring without solid numbers though. And I don't have access to the 25000 profiles of GNU/Linux gamers on Steam. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if >50% of them had redeemed HB keys with BoI. And nobody HAS to like a game enough to buy it. Especially when we're talking about the borked port of a scatological pseudo-roguelike Flash game...
If he were to make such an experiment on a NEW game, then he could very well have a point. I don't find him relevant enough to push the issue any further. Y'know, "don't feed the trolls" and stuff. ;p

Quoting: "sobkas, post: 7314, member: 411"Make a comment on formspring it will get more visibility and will refute his point. Maybe comparing sales of windows and mac versions in the timeframe after linux release might be more accurate.

It made me a little sad but there is still a hope:
For now my only concern is that some people might hear about this mess and associate not paying for games with Linux. I hope I'm wrong.
There is also urgent need for comment from Canonical.

Its fully managed private server hosting (not shared hosting) with cpanel, if someone can find cheaper elsewhere I would love to see it for what I get including free 5gb daily data backup.
Its sad but there isn't any cheaper.
In comparison omgubuntu pays over $600 a month for theirs.

The point that was being made was that Tommy's/Team Meat's opinions of Linux from 2009 aren't relevant to and are a separate issue from this situation with BoI and USC. They are two different topics and could perhaps exist better as separate articles.

the game looks quiet nice from the video, colorfull and clear. I guess a store like Desura or Steam or even Ubuntu store will make it easier for you guys to sell stuff. I don't even know if other distro's have stores ? I would personally not buy something from a distro only store simply because I got no idea I would still be using that distro next year :) But if you mean the packaging itself, I would suggest try http://openbuildservice.org/ , it can build any package you can think off but I would be okay with just a tar.gz myself or a generic installer.
anyways enough bla bla bla from me, I like the look of the game.

On the subject of Team Meat, I think the best thing to do is ignore them like any other troll, at least this Tommy fellow as Edmund McMillan could just be painted as mistaken in this instance.
Still, it is people like this that can give independent gaming a bad name: stuck up and full of ego. It does gall me the credit that Super Meat Boy gets compared to many other more creative and constructive Indie titles by other developers, including by the Humble Bundle guys. And note that is a personal opinion and not a defence for Canonical or any other such statement. I am hardly their best friend either...

Perhaps not. There was yesterday's confirmation that SMB would be published on Steam for Linux, though (and I imagine that Steam have update/support requirements that are at least as stringent as Desura's).
I came across this this morning: http://www.formspring.me/EdmundM/q/406271310277148233
I wonder what experience he's basing that opinion on. So far as I'm aware he's never been involved in a non-Humble Linux port (unless you count Gish, which was done released in a very different climate, not only for Linux games, but for indie games in general).
Since BoI is sitting in a Flash wrapper, I can't imagine it took any significant amount of effort to get it packaged for Linux.
Of course, the countering opinion from people like Hemisphere, Frictional, Wolfire, Frozenbyte, and many other indie devs who actually have done non-Humble Linux ports, is that it is worthwhile.
By Cheeseness, 24 December 2012 at 2:52 am UTC
Quoting: "Kame, post: 7291, member: 102"Considering Team Meat still refuses to do Linux ports except as part of a HiB and doesn't support those ports afterwards... I doubt his attitude has changed much.
