Any idea when the IDE is coming? I'd like to try making something in it, but not before this is as well.
For now, the complete list of released titles is just Rochard, Cubemen and Splice, right? I can't speak of Cubemen, but the other two work great.

flibit has actually released an update to oh.html talking about where things are at. Sadly, it doesn't seem like he's as keen to update it as I at first thought.
Thanks, me too :)

Hi everyone. Yes, we will be supporting Linux, and I will handle the port personally. My reputation is on the line, and it will be a solid port.
However, I want to correct a misunderstanding here. Putting out a Linux build (or any other port) of our game is not a matter of flicking a switch and saying, "Compile for Linux". I have done a lot of ports in my career, and they *never* work the first time. There is always testing and tweaking - and sometimes, major fixes - to be made.
Porting a game requires time to build it, the expense of having several systems with different versions (in this case, Linux distros), a lot of testing time, and likely several iterations of fixing bugs, rebuilding, and retesting. Several Linux aficionados have offered to help test the Linux builds. That will be great, but will also take time to communicate, send out builds, and work through the bug lists. The time isn't wasted - I'm sure most of the bugs will apply to the Windows and Mac builds as well.
But please don't assume a developer can just "push a magic button" and distribute a game to Linux at no cost. If they're doing that, they're cheating you by sending you and untested build that will probably have issues. Unity is a great start towards building Linux products, but it isn't a magic wand.

One more week left for Hero U to either reach its funding goal, or poof away as another failed project...
I hope more Linux gamers will jump in on Hero U in this final week and drop by the comments to mention being Linux backers... another demonstration that Indie teams adding Linux support is mutually beneficial (i.e. we are appreciative enough of bringing more good games to Linux to actually do pre-orders, so it helps them get funded)

Thank you for the compliments.
Regarding if its worth it as a 1p game, our goal is actually to make the game equally good for 1, 2, 3 and 4 players, meaning it shouldn't feel dumbed down or anything when playing alone.
We're hoping it'll end up feeling sufficiently different that people can (almost) consider it 4 different games, which should prolong the longevity of the game!

If Epic change their ways, that only impacts on future titles. It doesn't make up for the money, passion and enthusiasm that they effectively stole from some of their most loyal fans. The lesson that they obviously haven't learned is that one should apologise for one's mistakes, and I haven't seen any evidence to suggest that that's going to change.
The real mistake made was that Linux users assumed that Epic could be taken at their word, and by the looks of things, there won't be any learning from that either :/

Thankfully Linux in the past year or so is proving to be a money maker so things will only get better.

Steam also requires a level of maintenance and service that perhaps goes beyond the attention that Linux ports generally get (same goes for Desura). If you don't keep your game up to date/fix bugs, it's going to cause more problems for you on those platforms compared to if you were distributing them yourself..
I don't think that learning from mistakes is enough. If they'd just stuffed up and made some bad decisions that only impacted on the quality of their products, that'd be fine, but there were promised and statements that were never fulfilled and made into lies by their lack of communication. I (amongst others, I'm sure) went out and pre-ordered UT3 based off Mark Rein's (one of the head guys at Epic) comments in the now long-gone unrealtournament.com forums about the Linux client being included on the retail disc. If something like that happened on Windows, gamers would be calling for blood. Why are Linux users comparatively happy to be walked all over like that?

You're never supposed to actually believe kicktraq (and I especially don't know why they still show the 'trend' when the so-called experimental projection cones are a much better wag at how things are going), but it is interesting to compare results against other finished projects. This is the point where every new backer counts, especially if they tell a few friends... could actually make the difference between success and failure
