It's guesswork to say that the video is confirmation.
It's also guesswork to say that the video refers to the same stuff as the email you received. The likelihood of that being the case doesn't have any bearing on the fact that it's speculation.

The reason I feel it is confirmation is the fact that he has emailed me to say yes it is coming and yes it will be before the end of the year and now on video he's talking Linux up, on podcasts he says about working with a Linux team....I don't think I am doing guesswork here I feel that is confirmation...based on the fact he did confirm it directly to me.

We'll I just found tow bugs in The Journey and let the developers know about it and here is there response
"Hi Mark,
sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I was hoping to hear from our programmer that this was something we could solve, but he seems to prefer not picking at it at this stage. Hence, we'd rather give you a refund.
Did you get contact with the folks over at indie royale? Could they help you with a refund somehow?
Thank you, and sorry for the inconvenience.
-theo"
It seems that they do not care about fixing issues in there game and to just give me a refund. That really does suck because I really liked playing this game.

I'm pretty sure it can't be anything else either. That doesn't mean it's anything more than unconfirmed though.
I take your email to have more meaning/value than the video that this thread is about (which is maybe the point I was trying to make - the video doesn't confirm or reveal anything we didn't already know).

I agree that a hoax is unlikely, but that's a far cry from confirmed.
It's pretty hard to weed out the different sources from the ones just citing Phoronix, and identifying which ones actually have content and not speculation in them. The 7 Day Cooldown podcast that you're talking about is about as vague as this video (in an example of Valve's working environment, Gabe mentions that he's moved his desk down to work with "the Linux guys," but gives no indication of what they're working on). The Ubuntu video does have a little interesting info given by Jono Bacon, but it sounds vague and second hand (he says something along the lines of "I do know that Valve have been talking with Canonical about ensuring top support for their client," but it doesn't sound like he was personally involved in that).
The emails that people have been receiving from Gabe have talked about a Linux dev blog being on the way. I think that's the first solid thing we're likely to see (and with the general Valve and economics blogs that have recently appeared, that feels like it won't be far away) unless we get an interview quote or something.
Like I said, I believe it's coming. I just really need to point out that we only have shaky details at best. We all have a lot of our own passion and enthusiasm invested in this, so it's easy to get swept away. I do feel like the Linux community is being more accepting of the stuff we've been given so far than we would be of information of the same calibre regarding different topics.

Quoting: "Soeb, post: 4829, member: 170"I'd still go as far as say that it's been confirmed. The amount of emails from random people seem to say yes and it appears unlikely to be a huge hoax that somehow nobody caught yet. And as far as servers are concerned, why would he talk to other companies about supporting Linux with this - many already do so.
I agree that a hoax is unlikely, but that's a far cry from confirmed.
QuoteI know that until an official piece or a beta is released this should be taken with a pinch of salt, but I'd say with the number of different sources saying its true (some podcast some time ago, some Ubuntu devs at one point, Phoronix (*cough*) and random people that could be using the anonymity of the internet to mislead others, but why would they). I guess time will tell, but I'd like to just be hopeful about this for now.

Exactly. It's pretty ambiguous. Anything that requires educated guesses can't be called proof.

They've been supporting servers for years, I don't think Gabe would have to mention that fact again, just in case they had forgotten. It would be like Ford reminding people that they make cars.

"We're talking to people a little bit about Linux and why we're supporting Linux."
At no point does he say what exactly they're (going to be? Valve already support Linux with dedicated servers if you want to be technical) supporting Linux with, sadly. It would require some assumption to call this video a confirmation of Steam coming to Linux. Anything that requires assumption is (by definition) just speculation.
I personally believe that Steam for Linux is coming, but there's no way I can say that it's a fact.

32/64?
There's an update coming out when Desura finally authorizes it. See if that fixes the issue.

Hi Bumadar, does turning off occlusion query help?
I remember Shogo Hamish, I'll probably go with something similar to how Ace Combat did it though.

The new cockpit and the glass effects really make all the difference when it comes to screenshots. :)
When it comes to the dialog feeds, I would suggest that you take a look at how Shogo did it back in the day as that seems like a pretty good template for how it should be done in my opinion.

Though having an actual textbox appear with the dialog may potentially be a bit distracting for a space sim. Something I think you should think about though.

The character art is too weird-looking for me and the story seems bizarre, but it's got some neat game mechanics.
