Helena the 3rd now available to buy from the Ubuntu Software Centre
By KIAaze, 7 October 2011 at 4:11 am UTC

Ok, after a lot of trial and error, I figured out why I couldn't see the button.
It was because of NoScript. But that is not all:
Even with the default NoScript settings and all scripts allowed, the "buy" button is not visible!
To see the "buy" button, it is necessary to uncheck the "Clean suspicious internet requests" box in "advanced->XSS" (translated strings, so maybe not exactly the same in English).

I think that's quite a big problem since most NoScript users won't even see the button. :/

I also tried the site in Chromium and there it also behaves a bit strangely:
The website loads correctly with the button, but when clicking it:
1) A new tab opens and it shortly displays "uploading..." in the status bar until the paypal page appears (probably perfectly normal, but not very reassuring)
2) If I close the paypal tab and click the button again, nothing happens. (If I leave the paypal tab open and click the buy button again, it reloads the paypal page.)

The button code (slightly formatted) according to my understanding:
[HTML]

Quoting: "KIAaze, post: 2409"Mmh, where exactly is the "buy" button?
Or maybe I'm just too tired.

Also, I remember the game being open-source. What is the current status?

The game is closed source and has been completely re-designed much has changed since then. The buy button is located directly under the helena the 3rd image.

Cheers

Also multi-player :) Someone mentioned the single-player campaign, but for now we're really focused on making the multiplayer work.

Yeah the FPS aspect was more of a "oh look cool" sort of thing, space battles are awesome though which is what I am mainly looking forward to.

Yeah learning how Alex was treated by HIB was quite shocking really, not as good as they make themselves out to be eh.

Interview with Keith Poole from Desura Part 1
By , 4 October 2011 at 10:49 am UTC

Quoting: "MaximB, post: 1859"Nice interview, but I've already bought most Linux games that I want directly from the developers or with the Humble Indie Bundle.
Also I bought many games from gog.com that run on Linux, so at the moment I don't really know what games Desura can offer me.

Desure offers you th integration with all humble bundles. So as soon as it is out, you can forget your humble bundle links :)

Okay, Palpatine :)

This game isn't really for someone who's looking for a shooter, it's for someone who wants to play a space combat game where you can commandeer other ships.

This looks cool. It's exactly what I was thinking of doing, except 2D instead of 3D - combining my Rick Rocket space shooter and Dirk Dashing platformer game engines for a new Rick Rocket game, where you can fly around, then land on planets or stations and explore. I'll be following this project with great interest.

It was interesting to finally get a little bit of insight on how the HIB money is split between devs, notably the bonus games.
They added a slider to choose how much you want to give to the HIB2 games, but not for Steel Storm if I remember correctly. :/

As for Gameolith sales being low: I think it also has to do with the fact that the game was out for a while before Gameolith started, and then there was the HIB. So most people interested in the game probably already had it.

No worries Liam, it's a video of the internal prototype of another game I had in mind, but "Tomes of Mephistopheles" can be counted as it's spiritual successor, but with First Person view ;) Keep the vid, just maybe note it's not the "Tomes of Mephistopheles" game.

Liams right there are not many Linux fps games that offer a single player campaign and what there is are quite old. So you have either played them before or they are not offering anything new.
I am pleased to be part of the team bringing a Space shooter game that will switch from a pilot at the controls of a spaceship, then being able to leave your seat and walk around your own ship or if you have docked with another vessel leaving your own ship on foot and being able to walk around that vessel also.

have to agree with you on some of your comments, I got SteelStorm 1 and did find it very bland. It was only because of the HiB3 that I came into contract with SteelStorm 2 and was pleasantly surprised. Feel a bit sad though that your cut was so little. New missions will be a must buy though :)

I can't say for sure what engine we will be using. We are performing internal testing after which we can conclude which engine is most suitable for the project.

I assume that "Tomes of the Mephistopheles" is going to be using their Unigine license?

I will hopefully be getting Steel Storm down along with some of my other HIB3 titles over Thanksgiving since my uncle is lucky enough to have unlimited internet. I can give a proper opinion of the game then.
