I see no reason why Braid would need to use S3TC, it is just a 2D platform game after all. For those of you who do not know the history, that particular patent on S3TC texture compression has been a thorn in the side of the free graphics developers for years. Hopefully the developer will smarten up and switch to something a bit more free, or maybe Ryan could make an alternative just for the Linux port. Though it is somewhat ironic that I am evangelizing a change for the benefit of the free drivers while writing from my Fedora 14 system running Catalyst 10.12... :p

Still, what GPU are you currently using then Rusty, still stuck on an Intel?

Looks very nice, its a shame there is never no single player campaigns to go with linux shooters though.

Cortex Command - apareently the 32bit version works on 64bit (yet to try)
For Braid this fix located here comment 13. (tested and works for me)

Thank you Scott! I just want to confirm that this was indeed the issue. I've
enabled the option in driconf and now Braid runs flawlessly. I've given this
solution to others in ubuntu forums and blogged about it (giving you credit for
the solution) so it doesn't get burried here.
I hope they will eventually release an update that uses an alternate
compression for the textures instead of this patented algorithm.

I found this in OMG Ubuntu in the comments.
dylan-m:
You may have trouble installing the Revenge of the Titans .deb package. If you do, run this:
sudo mkdir -p /opt/revengeofthetitans/full_length_music
…then the package should install fine.

It really works!

Tried and tested 2 more games to go! If I get Braid to work then ill be happy with purchase

As I said, I plan to kick in 10$, my brother is also going to put in some money, but we shall see how much we in the end do contribute to their coffers. The problem is we need to balance this around necessary vehicle repairs. :(

How much is everyone contributing?

The developer himself originally tried to port it, but was not able to figure it out:

http://braid-game.com/news/?p=364

Some people were using it to claim Linux was not a suitable gaming platform at the time.

Going to put 10$ CDN into the effort, even if things are a little tight at the moment. I already do own Osmos though, as Maxim is quite aware of course. And thank you Ryan C. Gordon for getting that whole Braid fiasco cleared up once and for all!

I can dig that, kudos!

Glad Felix included the F12 in M.A.R.S. I bugged him about the multiple resolution option. He delivered so I made a quick and dirty overview video http://linuxgamecast.com/2010/12/l-g-c-b-reel-%E2%80%94-m-a-r-s-0-6-1-alpha/

Throw that in if you like it.

As posted on reddit (really again no need to comment twice).

The jist of my comment - I won't credit UG for 2 lines of code to add a ppa, anyone on Ubuntu generally knows how to do that.

Anyway i removed it as we are a general site not just Ubuntu related, i shouldn't have listed the ppa in the first place.

Also I forgot to link to your site as a source for the video, added it below the video for you :)
