Quoting: WorMzyOh boy, another developer that can't be arsed to support Linux, but will still benefit financially from open source software picking up their slack. Whoopee.
Where did they ask you to buy the game?

Oh, whoops, I thought making the game available for purchase on a digital game store meant they meant they wanted people to purchase it. My bad, I clearly misinterpreted their actions. They put the game up on Steam because they wanted people to.. uhhh.. re-evaluate their understanding of renaissance art, or something.

Quoting: poiuzYou're throwing your money into their pockets like you've got no choice. Clearly you don't care about a Linux port so why should the developers?

I'm not sure where you got the idea that I'm throwing money into this developer's pockets, but I can assure you that I'm not. No Tux, no bux; as the saying goes. I want developers to support Linux gamers, not just profit from them.

The Steam Winter Sale 2021 is now live
23 December 2021 at 11:58 am UTC

Here's hoping that this time next year, a lot of those devs that have previously been too lazy to release native Linux versions have seen the error of their ways. In the meantime, there are plenty of devs out there who are worthy of receiving my money.

Paradox takes another stab at sorting Surviving Mars newest DLC
8 December 2021 at 6:31 pm UTC

Quoting: Alm888It still segfaults immediately after entering main menu, unless I disable my network connection. It tries to phone home and display Paradox site with legal stuff informing me that I must agree with their "privacy policy" (in other words, agree to hand them over all my personal information), but fails, most probably because the game was compiled against "libcurl-gnutls.so.4" instead of "libcurl.so" and my hot-wiring is not entirely successful (manages to fool the game into launching, but fails to actually deliver if needed).

The pre-previous version (Tito) worked flawlessly.
libcurl-gnutls.so.4 is compiled against GnuTLS, it's not the same as libcurl.so and it's not surprising that you get segfaults if you're masquerading one as the other.

Wine 6.23 is out now continuing the PE conversion work
4 December 2021 at 10:11 pm UTC

I don't understand the whore PE-push, are the wine devs essentially saying that native Linux executable formats are subpar for executing code on Linux, or is there some super-optimzed PE-to-ELF translation layer at work here?

Looks similar to early Spore, we'll see how dumbed down it gets over time, but wishlish'd for now.

Canonical want your feedback on Ubuntu Gaming

Can't wait for them to create their own type of gaming, try to force it on the community for several months, then abandon the effort when it becomes clear that nobody is interested in doing things the "Canonical way". Woo.

KDE Discover gets update to prevent you breaking your Linux system

I have no use for this software, but it's probably good that it's getting some idiot-proofing ahead of the Deck launch (even if Valve are protecting the base OS image and using overlays, reducing the risk that dumb users pose to themselves...)

Ryan Gordon gets an Epic MegaGrant to further improve SDL, helping with next-gen APIs

Happy to see more of Epic's ill-gotten gains going to a worthy cause. Not interested in giving them any of my money until they properly commit to supporting Linux though.
