Remove the LD_LIBRARY_PATH "fix" from $steamroot/steamapps/common/EVERSPACE/Everspace.sh, so the last line looks like
You'll then be able to launch the game from Steam.

On Arch Linux I have an issue with a library path for VlcMedia. I'm not able to test with mesa-git on my AMD GPU, maybe others have more luck.
I cannot start the game from Steam, don't know why... but I can start the game directly with the RSG-Linux-Shipping binary. On mesa-git with my AMD GPU I didn't see any bugs, the game runs fine!

I just had a quick look, and apparently there's mods to disable that thing. Thank goodness. I can't remember it serving as anything other than an annoyance.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleLinux build definitely running smoother than previously. There does seem to be some kind of slowdown that creeps in right after cutscenes though... might be memory not freeing up. Busy digging for more helpful info now.

Probably shouldn't be looking at gaming laptops* then. :P
I've only ever had two laptops (technically netbooks), and I got them both for ~£150 from CEX. Neither of them could play anything graphically demanding, but they've both played native-resolution videos well enough, and can handle low-population fortresses in Dwarf Fortress.
* Although I still consider 'gaming laptop' to be an oxymoron.

No.
But I would be in for a cheap ARM laptop ultraportable, with a decent screen (slim bezels not to loose space).
I only need vim in a VT, and a couple of days of battery :)
OK, if you want to be fancy, add in links, ssh, and maybe, maybe some VNC or GUI of some kind (with a browser).
But all I personaly really need right now is a cheap, low-power portable terminal ;)
