Valve expects to sell 1 million Steam Controllers by early 2017, will allow configs for other controllers

Quoting: numasanI love input devices, so I preordered the Steam Controller based on its novelty. Right now it is gathering dust, and my time is spent with the Playstation 3/4 controllers, and I also want a SNES gamepad.

My main issue with the Steam Controller is that it is very noisy - I can't ignore the plastic clicking sounds practically all buttons/triggers make, even with headphones on. It's not that it feels cheap, it is just way too loud for me.

I also have a problem with the face buttons, they are spaced the close to each other IMO. I don't have large hands, and I still press the wrong button or multiple buttons more times than I like. Using the touchpad as a D-pad is a no go, again because of the noise but it also doesn't feel as precise. Another thing I find disappointing is that the controller is so tied to the Steam client, and especially Big Picture mode. I hoped it would be a more general purpose controller and that Valve would contribute the driver to the Linux kernel or something. I know there's the sc-controller project (haven't checked it out yet, because of the issues above), but ideally this should come from Valve day one I think. Lastly the controller mapping experience is not super great right now.

Unfortunately mostly negative experiences for me, but I sincerely applaud Valve for their innovative ideas and risk-taking in making this controller, and I look forward to future iterations of the Steam Controller.

My Steam Controller is also eating the dust with almost the same reasons as you mentioned. I really need a dualstick controller I cant get used to the steam controller interface.
I am using now the Logitech wireless gamepad F710 but I was thinking to get a ps3 controller.
I didnt know that ps4 controllers were working fine as well on Linux. Hmmm... I maybe get a ps4 controller then.

Looks like VR support for Linux will be shown off at SteamDevDays this week, about time

X-Plane 11 flight simulator will release this year, with Linux support

Well this offer doesnt apply for existing owners and definitely not for steam users even if you buy it now on steam.

On the other hand I find their prices extremely high but I guess this game is build having in mind that ONLY pilots will buy their game since they earn a lot of $$$.

Paying $1,000 for a simulator including all their DLC's I find it a bit too much!

A general guide for the best practices of buying Linux games
6 October 2016 at 3:05 am UTC Likes: 1

I usually do the following

Buy all the bundles available windows, mac, linux whatever
Humble Monthly, weekly bundles , indiegala, bundlestars etc

Activate all the games from bundles that I dont have, it doesnt matter if are linux or windows or whatever.

Run steam idle in order to get cards
---> sell cards ,get steam money, buy a linux game that I like
or sometimes exchange games for a linux game that I dont have and I like to play

I also get steam codes because sometimes I am selling hardware for example amd codes for Total War: Warhammer and Deus EX Mankind divided

Most of the games that they are already ported to Linux like Rocket League,Mad Max, Dawn of War II,COH 2,Tomb Raider and so many others I already had them from bundles.
Should I be ashame for that ? I am not :P

I do support most of the times the day 1 release Linux games like I bought XCOM2 , Hearts of Iron V and so many others or buy DLC for that game that ported to linux.

some people posting to steam forums requesting for a Linux port , some other buying ONLY linux released games from GOG , some other other buying only from Feral or Aspyr store and some other email or tweet to developers for a Linux port
either way at the end we all we all contribute to Linux gaming community in one way or another :)

For me at the moment none of these games are working.... so I consider it a bad port

well not all Linux users are running debian based distros...

So I am getting this very annoying screen at start

and when I launch the game my monitor becomes like this and I have to kill the task in order to go back
