Atari Vault, a 100 classic game collection heading to SteamOS & Linux

Quoting: CybaCowboyIf this is going to add a whopping 100+ games to my Steam collection though, I will pick it up irrespective...
I doubt it will. More likely it'll be a single shared Steam launcher and game library entry for the "vault". All the various articles are talking about a single package.

Personally I'm not going to touch this one. I did enjoy (some of) these classics back in the day, but the simplistic arcade gameplay just isn't my idea of fun anymore.

Agatha Christie - The ABC Murders is coming to SteamOS & Linux

Quoting: tuubiI hope they do good old Poirot's grey cells justice. The investigation gameplay needs to be spot-on. Hard to get right, I'd imagine.

PS: I'm a bit disappointed Poirot doesn't look like David Suchet. He is Hercule Poirot as far as I'm concerned.

EDIT: Clicked on quote instead of edit, sorry.

Nvidia talk Vulkan in a developer blog post, they say Vulkan supplements OpenGL
15 January 2016 at 3:49 pm UTC

Quoting: GuestThere's no reason we can't have a GLSL -> SPIR-V offline reference compiler, ....
Khronos has promised exactly this, and experimental support for SPIR-V output is already provided by glslang. There's also this quote from the Khoronos SPIR page:
QuoteSPIR-V also supports OpenCL 1.2, 2.0, 2.1 kernel languages as well as the GLSL shader language for Vulkan (under development).

Don't know how useful that particular NVIDIA extension will turn out to be.

This years GDC conference will have a very interesting Vulkan & DX12 talk from AMD

It would be weird if they hadn't been working with game developers on Vulkan backends. They wouldn't be stupid enough to do their first Vulkan driver releases without any testing on real game engines, right? I'm sure NVidia and even Intel are doing the exact same thing. Also, I'd bet these games are all very recent or upcoming big budget titles.

XCOM 2 is starting to look mighty interesting

Quoting: BeamboomOh no, please - no timers. :(

Seconded. Timed missions only lead to frustration.

Maybe there's hope that these timers are only there to make the players choose between missions (as you won't have time to do them all), and not to make missions themselves more stressful.

Quoting: GuestStill waiting for that new Valve title to drop. Makes me paranoid they're still wanting to put on a massive show and do a "hard launch" for Steam Machines at some point.

A new Portal would indeed be awesome. ;)

For kicks, let's hope they're just waiting for Vulkan.

GOL Asks: What have you been playing recently?

Aren't you guys just tickled pink seeing all the diversity in what people are playing on Linux right now? I know I am. Too bad I haven't personally had time to play much of anything lately. Heck, my wife's used my Steam account more than I have in the last couple of weeks. Playing Papers, Please and Race the Sun. :)

Oculus Rift VR headset will support Linux after release, looking like it's going to be pricey

Echoing Liam here, but I can't see myself enjoying anything at all with a huge gadget strapped to my face. Screw immersion if that's what it takes. I have trouble enough dealing with heavy headphones, let alone these monstrosities.

Of course I see this appealing to a certain crowd, and I'm sure a portion of them have the disposable income for this kind of lunacy. I'm definitely not part of that crowd though.

The open source app for the Itch games store has a major update

Quoting: TheBossI look forward to using the Itch.io store more due to this, as I hate manually checking for updates and doing them myself, as I have such limited time nowadays.
Speaking of which, I wonder if GOG will ever actually launch Galaxy on Linux. I've been using Steam more and more lately due to the convenience, even though there are a lot of things I seriously dislike about the whole games-as-a-service business model and all the social features I couldn't care less about.
