Spaceship colony sim Space Haven looks awesome, will support Linux

This game feels like FTL if it were a Space building sim. That right there makes me want to check it out.

Heroes of Newerth drops support for Linux and Mac

Quoting: constThe fact that the s2games homepage is not responding nor found via google has me much more worrying.
Always found their games very hard to get into, because of the steep learning curve and a culture of pros having fun to crash newbies instead of helping them. It was plain frustrating. Anyway, they were among the first studios to jump on the linux train and with passion. :/

I'm going guess that they went out of business at the end of 2017. They released Brawl of Ages which didn't go anywhere. They then abandoned it and tried to resurrect Strife. That also went no where. You can see all of this on their twitter feed.

Looking at glassdoor reviews, it paints a pretty bad picture for the company and explains all of the poor decisions that were made.

Paradox have put up the changes coming to Stellaris for MegaCorp and the big 2.2 'Le Guin' patch
4 December 2018 at 2:43 pm UTC

Quoting: PatolaCan't stand playing Stellaris anymore. The game changes too much and too quickly and all the paid extra content makes me feel the base game is utterly incomplete. That's one game I once liked but now dislike not because of quality, but policy.

I feel the same way. Once in a great while I will play the Star Trek mod but even that feels too much like the base game to last long.

Total War: THREE KINGDOMS confirmed to be coming to Linux, port from Feral Interactive

Quoting: TheSyldat
Quoting: KimyrielleI guess for TW games there a bit of a saturation process settling in, but it's still great to see such a commitment to our platform by the TW devs.

It would be awesome if more high-profile studios would be just as committed. Feral isn't porting too many TW games at all, there are just not enough OTHER AAA games getting ported.
Thing is the Total War gameplay formula is very peculiar and you won't see yourself enjoying it for every type of war setup that you can come up with.
-For example Atila in a Total War game ? Yes please gimme ! Therefore I bought
-Warhammer Battle in a Total War setup ? Again yes gimme and I bought.
-Total War Shogun 2 again that's a yes ...

But all of the others ? Nah sorry historically speaking that just doesn't add up to the reality of things.

Yes when Atila marched on Rome it was a scary number of nomadic tribes being led by "The Supreme King of all nomadic folk" so their formula work here for me. Because indeed the real life battles where numbered in the mutiple hundred thousands men and women in arms. And I'm not the only Total War fan to think that way.

On the other hand lots of the titles of the franchise that I don't want because the formula doesn't fit others want it.

Total War Empire is a great example whether you like it or not outside of Napoleon Armadas the other forces were not very big contingents. Heck that's even why despite being French I don't value Napoleon's strategical prowess because well let's face it most of the time he was just crushing his opponents under the weight of sheer number of troops pushing in.
Yet others probably enjoyed Empire precisely because it gave them the possibility to oppose great numbers against Napoleon armies.

In other words the fandom is split between "taking revenge on history fantasy" crowd and "It's a gameplay focused on opposing big contingents of troops so let's use historical setups where it actually led to big all out battles like the game offers" , and CA is quite good at alternating the two .

So saturation doesn't really come quick because every title released right after the one you bought generally ends up being a historical setup you either don't care for , or you don't see fitting the formula.

Now with that reply to you out of the way...
Am I a jackass for thinking "The only three kindgdoms that I want in my Linux box is an official translation of the latest Romance of the Three Kingdoms title" or am I not alone in wanting an official english translation AND a linux port ?

https://store.steampowered.com/app/363150/ROMANCE_OF_THE_THREE_KINGDOMS_XIII__13/

I was just looking at Three Kingdoms 13 the other day. Will probably be playing 2 and 4 on emulators instead because I doubt that will ever be on Linux in any form.

The Stellaris 2.2 update is going to rework planets, plus free content added into some DLCs

Lol

I really like Stellaris. However, the fact that I need to spend $100 to get the complete experience is a big turn off for me to buy anything in the future.

It really is a disappointment that I cannot enjoy the full game experience.

As for the game update, I found the tile mechanic to be boring and tedious. The changes look to be going in the right direction from what I've seen and should breathe life back into this game.

Quoting: BrisseDon't quote me on this, but I believe I've read on Feral's Twitter that if you buy a game that was announced but not released by Feral, and you do it from a Linux-machine, they still get their cut, as long as you avoid playing it on a Windows-machine within the first two weeks.

I remember the same! That would make one interesting question...

What I'm curious to know is if you buy it now and play using Proton, does Feral still get their cut? Someone should ask on their Twitter, but I don't have a Twitter-account :)

Yes, the platform you play it more on in the two weeks following the purchase determine the platform that it's counted at. Proton is counted as Linux. This has been stated many times before, and repeated by the Great Liam Himself in the two [bottom] proton articles lately. (a permalink to article updates would be nice, Liam)

The real question here is rather: does the Feral radar count as an official announcement?

Sure it'll be counted as Linux. However, since there is no Linux developer at the time, the money will go to the main developer.

Once a Linux developer publishes a Linux version, from there on the money for the Linux purchases will go to them.

So the problem with Proton in this case is that if someone develops and then publishes a Linux version at some point in the future, they will lose out on the previous Linux purchases using Proton.

This is just my understanding of how it all works.

Same. I should get around to finishing the first one before that one is ported over.

China you say? Guess it's Total War: THREE KINGDOMS then.

Big fan of anything three kingdoms related. Would buy that on day one.

Also, I added that game to my Steam wish-list so they know that I am interested in a Linux version.

Quoting: KohlyKohlI was pleasantly surprised when the snap updated yesterday.

Quoting: Cyba.CowboyIs that the snap from Ubuntu Software? I'm still on Alpha 22...

I was mistaken, it was the flatpak version: https://flathub.org/apps/details/com.play0ad.zeroad

Quoting: Cyba.CowboyAlso, I have a question - with my NVIDIA laptop, is there any (graphical/performance) benefit over using one version (snap or "regular" installation) over the other?

Being that it just packages the libraries I don't see why it would.

I could see startup taking longer as all of the libraries would need to be loaded into memory. With a traditional setup, shared libraries can exist in memory already which helps with load time.

I was pleasantly surprised when the snap updated yesterday. Didn't see any community mods yet but I expect it won't be long before a few show up.
