Steam Deck Previews are up, plus dbrand announce Project Killswitch

Quoting: eldarionAs much as I like seeing devices with Linux being sold, I really don't understand the hype of steam deck. I like playing a good game on a mobile device as much as I like watching a good movie on my phone. Meaning, not at all.

Don't get me wrong, small devices like this are great for casual gaming, but playing Witcher 3 on this is like going to the cinema and only watching half of the screen. You simply don't get the full experience.

I play my switch 60% in handheld mode vs 40% docked. My kids play on long trips in the car.

Being able to play in bed or by others who are doing other things is really nice.

Honestly, I don't want something that isn't portable anymore when it comes to video games.

NVIDIA 510.47.03 is out adding Vulkan 1.3, GeForce RTX 3050 support

Quoting: TerromurThis is great! It is a pity that I have an outdated video card that only supports the 470 version, because if you put it higher - a black screen ... and there is no Wayland support

Can you tell us how Wayland works stably on Nvidia? And then I remember, it was necessary to prescribe a lot of things to make it work.

Need the latest everything and even then there are bugs like the panel in KDE not rendering properly. Still missing Gamescope and GSYNC as well.

Right now it isn't too bad if you manage to get it working but the experience on Wayland with AMD is much smoother.

Asking the developer might be an option. How about it Liam?

System76 releases the Kudu featuring AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX

Quoting: ComfyRiceWhat are with all these AMD CPU/Nvidia GPU laptops?
There are so few laptops with dedicated AMD GPUs

Recently I knew I wanted an all AMD laptop and finding one for Linux was near impossible. Even for Windows this was difficult to find. I ended up with a Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1.

Surprisingly, I was able to get everything to work, including the fingerprint reader, except one minor thing. When I put it into tablet mode, I'm not seeing any event for it to trigger tablet mode. Minor issue as I can just toggle the virtual keyboard from the tray and the physical keyboard turns off at the hardware level.

So far this is a great laptop and I'm just waiting on pstate to be merged into kernel 5.17 so I can get better power management.

Let's gooo!
Lucky! Mine says Q2 2022 (initially said Q1, before they had to delay it over the holidays). I got mine within the first 25 min? The site was being hammered and I had to keep trying. Probably what I get for being paranoid and never saving my CC info anywhere...

Well, it's probably some time in March. I've been on vacation when the reservation started, I set the alarm but missed it, being on a noisy promenade at the time. Realised 10-15 minutes later that it was past due, I did my best to get the reservation, but had to re-do the checkout three or four times. So, paradoxically, maybe (hopefully) I was still pretty early, given that the system was clogged in the beginning.

Yeah mine was 3 or 4 times as well. Probably going to find out you were 5 ahead of me, so barely fit in the Q1 slots.

I started on time and it took me over an hour...

System76 tease their new 'Kudu' laptop with the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX

Quoting: LoftyMight want to hold off on spending near 2K on a laptop when the next gen Intel and AMD are just around the corner. Not to mention APU/GPU refreshes.

Would be nice if these larger powered Linux Vendor laptops came with libre/coreboot to really set them aside from just buying from every other vendor and slapping (Arch) Linux on it.

The next gen is always right around the corner with technology...

Really want something in the low to mid tier range from System76. All of their laptops are above what I'd be looking for in a laptop.

Need a laptop that I can watch shows on and use a web browser with. Also, be able to stream/hook-up to a TV.

Amazon hiring for Proton / Wine and Linux developers for streaming service Luna

Quoting: elmapuli forgot to mention, i saw an video sometime ago discussing if linux was the reason why stadia was strugling to grow, they gathered some data about the topic and came to the conclusion that only 1 game was avaliable on luna but couldnt run on any linux device or something like that, so the answer was: NO, stadia using linux didnt explain why amazon and xcloud were more sucessfull than it.

so the lack of games on linux was not the main issue, and now with amazon investing on linux...

For me, i'd rather pay a subscription fee rather than buy games individually. If the service went under then I would be more comfortable if I had paid a subscription fee rather than losing games that I purchased.

I think people are more used to subscriptions and since Stadia leans more towards buying individual games that could explain why it isn't doing so great.

Being able to play a large collection of games versus a small number of games is just so much more appealing to me.

Quoting: Liam DaweI made a prediction / hope on a Valve streaming service back in 2018.

Sure. After all, streaming is the future.

New players like Google and Amazon have already entered here. Microsoft is also pulling up.

If Valve doesn't launch its streaming service in the next year or two, they may lose everything. And no Linux will save them. That's why I'm a little scared for Valve. I hope Gabe and Co know what they are doing and will not miss the moment.

Poor internet and data caps will prevent that in the USA for the near future.
