Quoting: adamhmBest to wait for confirmation that the Linux version will be coming to GOG - it would suck to buy it and then find out that the Linux version will remain Steam exclusive. This has been the case with a lot of other games released on GOG & it's something that they really need to work on IMO :/
What's the next thing you do ask for? Linux is not enough, it has to be DRM free on Linux? So the next level are native BSD Games?

You say that as if it's somehow unreasonable to expect fair treatment of all customers. Anyway I've always been ardently opposed to DRM, since long before I even considered using Linux; as far as I'm concerned DRM reduces the value of any software to near worthless (and Steam is the only DRM I will tolerate at all. Any other DRM = it doesn't exist to me and I won't accept it even if it's free).

This was also released on GOG today; no idea if the Linux version will be made available there as well though. I posted in the release thread asking GOG about it and have emailed GSC about it too.

Transport Fever released with day-1 Linux support, some thoughts

Quoting: ivantGot it from GOG. Do I miss out the mods?

I emailed them about this prior to release & they told me:

QuoteMods can be also downloaded from fan sites or mod databases and installed manually.

So I'd guess it's dependent on the modders uploading them somewhere like Nexus Mods/Mod DB

Wine allowed me to re-live a gaming experience I had from when I was a child on Linux

If it wasn't for Wine I probably wouldn't have switched to Linux and would still be clinging to Win7; it would have meant abandoning a 20+ year library of games, plus some other software I needed that wasn't available natively for Linux. These issues are primarily what stopped me switching to Linux back when Vista came out - fortunately by the time Win8 forced a re-evaluation the situation had drastically improved (getting a free 1yr CrossOver subscription at the time was very helpful too).

There are three conditions that must be met when I consider buying any Windows games now:

1- Must be DRM-free. I despise DRM and won't tolerate it in general (the most I'll tolerate is Steam, but only for games that officially support Linux and only at a very deep discount), but it's especially important when it comes to Wine due to the potential impact on performance and stability.
2- Must have a good chance of running well in Wine (so no DX10/11/12 stuff atm).
3- Must be older/very unlikely to get an official Linux release and be sufficiently discounted. I'll only consider paying full price for something if it's both DRM-free and supports Linux natively.

Quoting: GuestWell the reason is GOG doesn’t do refunds if you don’t use their currently supported flavor of Ubuntu or Mint (at the moment it seems they dropped Mint).

They still support Mint:

QuoteOur support also extends to any future non-LTS releases, official Ubuntu flavors (like Kubuntu, Xubuntu, etc.), and derivatives (e.g. Linux Mint, elementaryOS etc.), so as long as your operating system is part of the Ubuntu family, you have nothing to worry about. Naturally, our technical support and refund policy apply to all these versions.

Quoting: GuestOh and I hate installers. You can’t know what they are going to do, they might not work, and they often require more tedious interaction than simply extracting an archive for games that don’t use one.

GOG uses MojoSetup installers for all of their Linux games and they can be unpacked using the unzip command.

Shadow Warrior 2 may not come to Linux after all, it's getting a bit confusing

Quoting: liamdaweAs far as I can tell though, that forum topic was not made by a developer or a member of the team?

It's a "pinned" thread though so I'd expect them to have checked it over... plus I don't see how they could miss all the various articles and discussions about Linux support being confirmed and not do anything to correct it if it was untrue. Of course it's possible that the plans have changed though & the news hasn't been communicated to everyone involved.

Quoting: liamdaweI sure hope no one has purchased it already.

This kind of thing is exactly why I decided to wait until the Linux version is available before buying (this, and wanting to ensure it gets counted as a Linux sale).

I also emailed Devolver a while ago and was told that a Linux version was planned, just not day 1. The game has had Linux support listed on its Steam store page and reported all over the place for a very long time so I can't see how they couldn't have noticed and corrected it sooner if it wasn't planned.

My guess is that it's been removed from the store page because it's releasing soon and the Linux version won't be available at launch, and that this is just a case of miscommunication.

Just a heads up, Saints Row: The Third on Linux has broken co-op play

Perhaps you could also give Deep Silver a poke about the missing Linux versions of the Saints Row games on GOG (and while we're at it, the Metro Redux series)? I've tried emailing & sending letters to them (and Volition) myself to no avail, but maybe they'll be more likely to listen & reply to you.

It really irks me when games that are on GOG get Linux releases but the Linux versions get withheld from GOG... it sucks having to choose between a DRM-free version for a restrictive & DRM'ed OS (and a -Linux +Windows sale :/) vs a DRM'ed version for an open & free OS. As a result I usually pick neither, or wait for *really* deep discounts.
