These devs are all-stars. Really one of the best studios out there. I'm patiently awaiting release of this game and I'm sure I'll have my life dominated once it does! Looks very in depth and super cool.

Completely agree!! I cannot stand video reviews or guides or pretty much anything, so this kind of text review with pics is so wonderful in 2024 (almost 2025 wtf how did that happen).
(also can we all just ignore the troll in this comment thread pls)

Great review!
This is something I have been looking forward to for a long time, but I'm going to wait even longer. I will 100% ragequit out of frustration if there are bugs that break the game (and this review plus almost every single other one confirms that). Plus the non-game-breaking bugs just sound beyond frustrating too (enemies having totally different behavior on save load wtf?).
Like with pretty much every single big game these days, probably needs about a good solid year's worth of patches. I've waited this long, a little longer won't hurt. Plus the performance will be better too.

Agreed with both of you, it's scummy and shameful on Valve's part because it's like a casino taking advantage of peoples addiction problems.

okay thank you. I will wait for them to announce/release this, and if it works well with more buttons avail, I think I'd get it right away. Hope it comes soon because the concept looks awesome!

Quoting: KlaasQuoting: JarmerDoes anyone have a link to the additional module with more buttons and how that would connect to this and how it would be used and what it looks like? I couldn't find it on their site.I don't think there is even a mockup visible. In the news section, you can see an announcement with a picture of a pcb.

I hate hate hate hate hate this garbage scam fake delay bullshit. It's like extortion. Feels like a drug dealer or scummy used car salesman or some trash.
"Hi we have this game."
"Oh nice! I will buy it and play it."
"Okay ........ but you can't play it."
"What?"
"We released it, but to play it you need to pay more money."
"What?"
"You can play it sometime in the future whenever we feel like but to play it now when we released it you have to pay more."
"I already paid you full price and the game is released. I want to play it now."
"No."

Wow, this looks AMAZING. I am very interested in purchasing it, BUT like @scaine I am not sure I could really get used to it with such a small amount of buttons. I am right handed but use a split southpaw keyboard (sp-111) which means I use the left side numpad as a macro pad for gaming. That gives me 24 keys in that cluster, and I frequently use ALL of them plus even more like tab, capslock, tilde, etc.
With this, since the movement takes away WASD, that would mean it's down to 20 keys in my macropad cluster compared to the 10 on this device.
Let's take a single game for example. Right now I'm playing Dragon Age Veilguard (not sure for how much longer its just so depressing) and for calm exploration parts, it would be okay to move my hand away from this device to use extra buttons (like inventory, or map), but during combat, that's not possible. I'd die standing still. So right now, during combat, on my macropad I use:
WASD movement
CV rune selection/activation
1234 abilities
TAB issue companion orders
X swap weapon set for range vs melee
E finishing move / activate things
R heal
SHIFT run
SPACE dodge
I think I'm forgetting something, but anyway, that's MOSTLY what I use constantly. So taking away the WASD since that's by physical movement, there's 12 keys there that are essential for real time combat. I don't think it'd be possible to do without any of those. And this is a pretty basic kiddified combat game, others I use way more buttons like F, ALT, Q, Z, etc...
With this device, unfortunately I would have make healing, or dodging or whatever a double tap button press, which during combat might be tricky? Just not sure about that.
Does anyone have a link to the additional module with more buttons and how that would connect to this and how it would be used and what it looks like? I couldn't find it on their site.

Epic roguelike Caves of Qud now has a proper tutorial

I normally am quite reserved about these types of games just because of the learning curve and time dedication it takes to properly enjoy them, BUT I have had this on my wishlist for what seems like forever, and with the tutorial now in the game, I just tried it, and WOW. This is something special. I absolutely love the in-game ui, somehow feels super retro-futuristic. And the DEPTH. Holy shit I've only played a tiny bit but can already tell there's a ton of simulation built in here.
Now I am very much looking forward to full release in a few weeks and simultaneously dreading it lol.

Quoting: D34VA_Quoting: Leahi84I'm surprised Valve allowed this. I can't think of a single time a company has allowed their property to be used on an engine that wasn't theirs. This seems so wrong to not be on Source. Won't be playing it. This will never be as polished as a proper Valve release of conclusion anyway, so I'll stick with that "fan fiction" the original writer released years ago as my conclusion.Sure, it's not canon, but it's a cool "what if?". Besides, the real HL3 is on its way, so we have nothing to complain about.

I'm not really interested in anything with the word "rogue" in it, but this does *kind* of remind me of one of my all time fav games from my teen years: Interstate 76. Maybe like if that and Carmageddon had a really freaky baby.
