Quoting: Leahi84I'm surprised Valve allowed this. I can't think of a single time a company has allowed their property to be used on an engine that wasn't theirs. This seems so wrong to not be on Source. Won't be playing it. This will never be as polished as a proper Valve release of conclusion anyway, so I'll stick with that "fan fiction" the original writer released years ago as my conclusion.

do you happen to have a handy link to that fanfic?

Nice, thank you!!! I'm going to send this to my kobo and read it later tonight :) (also have to even remember what happened at the end of ep2 omg I was a kid back then)

damnation - I saw the headline and was hoping for a fix for the hair strands in DA Veilguard, but nope, instead it's a popup warning fix, lol. Oh well.

Quoting: pleasereadthemanualCOSMIC is a great desktop. I ran it as my main desktop for a few weeks. I'd love to try it again when it's stable and has more features like support for graphics tablets and integrated input methods :)

I'm very much looking forward to the unofficial spin the actual cosmic devs will put out soon. Last I heard it was planned for spring '25.
Is this the spin for Fedora or openSUSE?

For Fedora 42. There's a post on twitter by the system76 head guy, but I can't find it because that site is a dumpster fire and won't let me look at stuff without logging in (and having no account makes that difficult lol).

Quoting: M@GOidThe UE5 means bad performance overall and potentially lots of bugs on Linux. Too bad they chose that path. Source 2 is quite capable and could have been a much better choice, although I feel they go to the UE road because of developer familiarity with it.

not to mention everything will look like sweaty plastic.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered may need a workaround on desktop Linux

Quoting: Stellawhat didn't you like about Forbidden West? While there are some regressions I noticed particularly in the UI department, I still enjoyed it coming from Zero Dawn. Curious what other people think about it

It really felt like the developers didn't understand AT ALL what the community / gamers / fans liked and disliked about the first game.

At the end of the day, there were two things that made me completely quit the game mid-way through which I would NEVER have even dreamed of doing on the first game.

1) the story. The story in the first game was absolutely phenomenal, like one of my all time favorites. I LOVED learning about the past through those little data slates you picked up and the holographic stories. And the twists and turns and plot elements kept it super interesting. The reveals about what really happened were impactful and super cool to then experience the world knowing what you now know. It was just overall a REALLY good story.

In Forbidden West, I couldn't even tell you anything about the story. I made it halfway through the game, but all I can even remember is that you're supposed to go west following sylens and __________________. No clue. We already know what happened, and the whole "super soldier bad guys" trope from the original colony was just SO BADLY DONE. omg so bad.

2) the bloat. The blooooaaaaaaattttttt. I got to a point where I was having to make manual notes to keep track of the things NOT to do on the map, since there were SO MANY useless quests that are completely just wastes of time. Like there's this super long series of quests where you have to grind a metric fuckton of resources on the worst ever fetch quests of all time, and then the reward is an armor set I will never ever wear since it doesn't fit the build I'm playing. And then there's those hunting grounds, and the arena, and the races, absolutely none of which I wanted to ever do. At all.

But the kicker is the armor / weapons. Omg they made it SO MUCH WORSE. Now it's nearly impossible to get fully upgraded gear since you have to grind ultra rare parts for what seems like an eternity. I remember in the first game feeling really good and happy about maxing out my gear near the end of the game. In FW, when I looked up what it would take to do so, I just totally gave up, knowing that I'd never have the energy to grind that much. Which then totally destroys the entire upgrade system since now I don't even care about it.

Not only that, but also how many different types of weapons and ammo and modifiers are there now? I lost track I can't even count them! It was borderline comical how idiotic the entire ammo/weapon system was. "okay so this monster is weak to fire. Got it. But wait, there are like 18 different weapon/ammo/mods that do fire damage, do I want spears or arrows or bombs or traps or wires or guns but wait I really like this spear but I don't have any ammo for it. But I do have a ton of ammo for this gun I don't like, hang on I have now completely forgotten who am I even fighting?"

It was just almost totally a step backwards. Really one of the biggest let downs in the past several years for me. I had been looking forward to this title for sooooooooo long since I loved the first one so much.

I have so many emotions / comments about this whole thing lolol

  • like @linas said: wtf why does this even exist at all, a remaster of a game that needs absolutely no remaster at all wtf wtf wtf

  • nixxes are some of the absolute best devs out there, I swear they are amazing. While I didn't like the Forbidden West game (at all, god it was so so so so so so so horrible) their work on the pc version of the game was damn near flawless. By far the best I've seen for any modern release.

  • fuck sony for forcing psn logins into their games and breaking stuff like this all over the place

  • the original non-psn-bullshit game being delisted is awful and I wish steam/valve would make this impossible to do

  • the first game is still amazing in this series, but the second was a major step down in quality, so I'm not even excited for the third installation at all

Fedora 41 is out now with plenty of enhancements like easier NVIDIA driver installs

I'm still hoping/excited for the Cosmic spin of Fedora 42! (sorry I don't have any related comment for this release)

Man I don't know how on earth Crider does it. Not only is he innovating in a space that's seeing crazy fast development, but he's also maintaining an ENTIRE distro (basically himself?), doing new releases for GE constantly all the time, and now forming new coops and launching totally new tech. All while doing his day job at red hat. Damn.

I felt good the other day when I sent a few emails and got the yard work done. lol.
