Wine and Wayland take another step closer with more code merged

Quoting: drjomsSo in a nutshell, direct or indirect consequence of this - we shall have wine/proton working natively with Wayland?

yes exactly. The big question is "when" - I think I've been hearing some version of this exact same statement for years now. It's always "coming soon" so we shall see. For now I'm still on x11 just because it irks me to switch to wayland and then for all my games it's just running x on top of wayland. Why not just run x natively. I'll be very glad when it runs natively on wayland! But the when ...

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is absolute boomer shooter joy

Quoting: MaathShould I not be offended by the term "boomer shooter?" "Boomer" has become a derogatory term since the "OK Boomer" meme to signify older people whose opinions, knowledge, and experience we no longer care to hear. I assume it is being used at least partly in that way here, since the games in question hearken back to the mid-90s, which would have been Gen-X era (maybe millennials, though I suspect they were mostly too young). Likely most baby boomers don't even play video games.

Or maybe I'm over thinking it and it just rhymes better than Gen-Xer FPSer.

The phrase never made sense to me whatsoever. Boomers were already 50 years old in the mid 90s so yeah, almost none of them would have played doom / quake. My father is a boomer and he's 80 years old now! Wouldn't even know what the words Doom / Quake / FPS / etc mean.

My guess is that "boomer shooter" just sounds good rolling off the tongue and is way easier to write / read than "Genx Shooter" so it stuck.

Quoting: lejimsterI'm not sure if the article mentioned Wolcen. The concept for that game and the demo footage looked awesome, but the studio got into trouble and ran out of money and another dev took over and what little I played just didn't grab me unfortunately. Such a shame and probably why I won't be doing early access in the future.

It did, at the bottom. It really was a shame what happened with that game. So many broken promises. They even released a lot of the original ideas/promises in the beta, only to later remove them completely and turn the game from a really interesting concept into just another boring looter but worse in quality than all the other looters out there. I also have tried it on linux multiple times since they sold the entire company, and the input lag was unplayable. In both single and online mode. Not sure why. Immediately switching to last epoch or d4, and didn't notice it at all there, so seems like a wolcen specific issue.

This is one of those I've been waiting to leave EA to play, but it seems it's ALSO one of those that might be forever in EA. They don't even have an estimated release date on the store page lol. Might just have to try it out on the Deck.

System76 launch multiple new powerful Linux laptops

I agree with @ElectricPrism re intel / nvidia. I greatly prefer AMD for anything linux related, so as long as I can customize it with amd cpu and gpu, then great, but if not, I'm sorry but I'll look elsewhere.

Much more looking forward to their custom laptop launch! Also will be interesting to see where the Cosmic DE goes.

Zoria: Age of Shattering now skipping Early Access to release in September

I have the demo downloaded but haven't gotten around to it. Have any other lovers of crpg's played it / can comment on it?

I just don't know if releasing this game THREE WEEKS after Baldurs Gate 3 comes out is a wise idea. I don't have time in my life for two incredibly complex extremely long crpgs at the same time, and I'm 100% playing bg3 (but lets be honest I would play a game made of a leather shoe if it was made by larian) so ........... oof timing.

EVERSPACE 2 out now, devs focus on Proton for Linux - Steam Deck optimizations planned

For what it's worth, I'm REALLY having a lot of fun with the game. It truly scratches the outer-space-open-world/universe vibe. Yes it definitely has some perf issues, but even still, the game they've crafted is a ton of fun. Give it a try!

Quoting: ShmerlFor whatever reason, the game disables the option to choose between DX11 and DX12, but you can force DX12 mode with -dx12 parameter.

on steam, if you click the cog settings for the game, go to properties, under the general section there's a drop down selector for dx11 / dx12. No need to use launch parameters.

EVERSPACE 2 out now, devs focus on Proton for Linux - Steam Deck optimizations planned

Quoting: 1xokThe game does not reach 60FPS, at least in WQHD with a 67xx XT, even with DXVK/Proton. Is the performance the same under Windows? How are things on the Deck? As a German, I would like to support the studio. Unfortunately, we don't have that many in Germany (any more).

I'm running a 6800xt and getting pretty poor performance with 3440x1440. Normally I can run most anything on high/ultra, but definitely not here. Definitely seeing low fps as well as stuttering.

Then on top of that, every single cutscene completely crashes the entire game. Seems the vram overflows and crash. So I have to skip every single cutscene. I can rewatch them in the menus but still. The optimization is REALLY bad here in linux.

Hopefully give it a little while and a few patches might fix things up.
