Quoting: ElectricPrismI'm beginning to think all beloved franchise are being destroyed intentionally to justify removing them from the culture pool forever and ostracizing the golden version of each franchise.

For example,: RIP Lord of the Rings -- Amazon & The Rings of Power are doing their best to kill Tolkein's legacy forevermore.

Agreed. It's really sad to me to think there are likely young kids out there today who might have watched that amazon prime abomination of a show and think "so this is what lord of the rings is?" and have no clue about the actual magic and wonder of the books.

I'm in agreement with others here: It's time to let Halo rest. They think they have a hungry audience that want's MULTIPLE halo games to be released? I think they don't understand their audience. But this is 343 we're talking about, so the bar for understanding anything whatsoever is pretty low.

Unified Linux Wine Game Launcher (UMU) gets a first official release

so is this basically like going into steam and doing the "add non steam game" from the menu? But just in a different launcher?

That's how I was able to get the battlenet launcher to work as well as the awful ea launcher I think. (battlenet instructions from this site!)

Also, lol at the name ... where exactly did the letters umu come from?!?!?!?

VR device maybe, but I doubt it. Smartwatch no chance.

I think @cato-the-younger is right ... They want SD2 to be on arm. Battery will last 2x - 5x longer, fans will sound less like a jet engine, and performance will either be on-par or even better than x86. It's really a no-brainer for a mobile device to get off x86 at all costs.

Quoting: JarmerThank you so much for your comment! I have a general question: Would you ever be interested in doing a "show us how it's done" type post about how you do your development? Not super detailed perhaps, but even just basic stuff like what tools you use, what environments you use, how you communicate with your team, etc etc... I love reading or listening to developers talk about how they do their craft, but so few do.

I'll try to briefly answer your questions. We use Unity engine, which can produce binaries for various platforms. There's rarely any issue with something working on Linux and not on Windows and vice versa, but we've always found a solution/compromise. For writing code(C#), we use Jetbrains Rider. For graphical assets, the team uses various mix of tools - Blender, Photoshop, Illustrator, Affinity. Music and SFX is outsourced. For versioning we use git with lfs extension. We used to use Perforce, which is probably better suited for games, but the cost for a growing team was just too high. We're 8 guys in a single office, so communication is easy and you can talk to anyone at any time. For online communication we use Discord, which I'm not a big fan of, but gamers apparently use it a lot so it's also our main communication channel with the community.
Sometimes we publish interesting things from the development at our steam page
And I like this video, where you can see how we do the animations using blender.

That's super interesting info!!! Thank you so much. Interesting on Rider. I too dislike Discord, but yes it's true that so many people use it. I absolutely HATE the chat format of discord vs traditional posting forums (mainly for archival info and searching) but I'm old so I remember the glory days of forum communities.

Really looking forward to the game release, and thanks for sharing this info!

so basically they want to make it easier for the developers of App XYZ (or Game ABC) to just push a button for deployment and BAM their app/game is available on x86 or Arm? Is that correct? Those are pretty much the only architectures popular right now correct? All computers / phones / etc run on either x86 or Arm right?

And then I guess make it easier for the future when x86 inevitably dies, and there's some new competitor to Arm, this project could support that...?

Are they also talking about Operating Systems as well? Like how both windows and linux run on x86 but a lot of apps / games only release on windows (and then run on linux via proton).

Quoting: ExplosiveDiarrheaNative Linux version? Hmmm, this makes me less likely to buy their game: we all know they will eventually drop/unsupport/lag-behind it...
Now, if they had a *supported* Proton version (whatever that means, I'm not really sure) that would be amazing!

Hi,
I'm one of the programmers of the game and I'd like to address this concern. You can be sure the game will support Linux simply because most of the programming is done on Linux. So Linux is not just an afterthought for us. It's the same case as with our previous game - Project Hospital. I understand your frustration probably coming from experience with some games, where Linux support might be neglected, but that surely won't be the case with Silence of the Siren.

BR,
JA

Valve (Steam) begin a direct collaboration with Arch Linux

This is so fascinating. Personally just for my own selfish sake, I wish it were a different distro that wasn't rolling (I'm just ready to exit the rolling release rollercoaster), but I completely understand why they're doing this. And it's wonderful! This should do lots of great things for the linux community and gaming.

This is a genre I have absolutely no experience with. Autobattler sounds interesting, but I really wish they had a demo. But then again, the games only $10 ???????????? CHOICES!
