Linux Mint Debian Edition 6 'Faye' enters Beta

In fact, things like full support for media codecs have been shipping by default in Debian for years and years.
Anyhow, most of us are just curious, not trying to question or attack Mint . I checked the website but besides shipping a more recent version of Cinnamon and screenshots of the upgrade GUI there's very little information about what makes Mint different from Debian (or previously Ubuntu).

Quoting: tuxayo- non-libre video codecsWith the exception of a GUI tool for major updates and the need for manual install of out-of-tree wifi drivers, Debian, at least on the GNOME side, comes with all of these as far as I can tell.
- non libre wifi drivers (that's still not out of the box/with a checkbox in Debian right? One has to know the package to install IIUC)
- a software center by default, (type VLC in synaptic and show the results to a non IT person)
- flatpak setup by default. Important for non IT people to not end up with a years old Minetest of 0ad and not being able to play with friends.
- update notifications, important to have any hope a system is updated by non IT people
- major upgrades possible with a GUI tool (WIP, that's new, not prompted by default, one has to install and run it)
- things to check on Debian: laptop power management, MTP support, simple-scan installed by default
- anything else someone here know about?

FWIW, Debian does also provide an installer that gives you Cinnamon as a desktop by default. It's provided by the Live Install images.
These uses the Calamares installer which might be a bit easier for beginners?

Quoting: KithopA bit unclear here - do we know if these are also (at least as they pertain to games like Starfield) inIf you are really curious: Check the commit on the vkd3d-proton submodule. Find the commit in the log for the tagged vkd3d-proton release to see the date: Aug 31, 2023.
GE-Proton8-14? It says they updated to the latest VKD3D-git and of course GitHub just says 'last week' without an actual timestamp (really?).
Presumably the features have been in Git for a while before they tagged this release, and the performance seems... okay, so I'm going to assume 'yes', but I'm wondering if this might be a good reason to flip back to Proton Experimental for Starfield.

Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars getting remastered, plus a whole new adventure

Shadow of the Templars: Reforged doesn't really do anything for me. Revolution have been so good with keeping the first games updated (and ported to new platforms) yet another re-re-release feels superfluous.
I wish they went back and gave 3 & 4 some love instead. Keep the gist of the story but remake everything else. Make them proper point & clickers with detailed 2D graphics.

If you already have the game on Steam or GOG here's how to get the Mac version to play with ScummVM (the upcoming release or from git):
https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=Syberia#Installation
Interestingly that same wiki page mentions that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game used a different engine again, meaning the ScummVM version is now the fourth one used!

Interesting. These are the Mac versions of Syberia, because "ScummVM currently supports only the Macintosh versions of these games. These versions were produced by Tetraedge and are built on a completely different engine than the original Windows versions; basically, they are reimplementations, not ports."

Quoting: heidi.wengerBut if Roblox profits from child labor, it is awful and no joking matter. That's true. My reply was quite tone deaf. I apologize.

Quoting: pleasereadthemanualIt's the website I find to be a chore! Coming from Australia, the website takes a minute to load up and redirect. Once I get to the sign in screen, I need to fill out two screens of "Which of these is a dolphin?" hcaptcha to prove I'm a human. Then I go back to the incredibly slow website to claim the game, which is another 4 screens. Usually about 20 seconds or more between them. Oh, and now I need to click on the dog before I can claim it, twice.Ouch! Sound like your experience with the site is on par with my experience with the client. I can only assume they are now running Denuvo with Emscripten on the storefront.
Quoting: pleasereadthemanualOh, right! I didn't know that. I assumed they were encumbered by DRM as they don't give you an obvious way to extract the game files. That's a good thing! There's sometimes some magic launch parameters needed. Usually involving -EpicPortal It does differ between games, but is documented on pcgamingwiki.
- Unofficial PC port of Zelda: Majora's Mask, 2 Ship 2 Harkinian has a big new release out
