Quoting: LoftyPlease tell me that the Polaris generation is still supported under FOSS MESA drivers.Depends on what you mean by supported. radv wasn't written by or maintained by AMD...

Apparently the game defaults to different graphics levels depending on the renderer. The default for Vulkan is higher which might explain why some are having performance problems.
Paradox plan announcements next week, like a new game from Cities Skylines dev

Quoting: drjomsYou can have both, X11 and Wayland on same machine.Even run Wayland in X11 too, with Meson! (gamescope too, but it's not a general purpose thing).

I'm back down at a minimum power level at max refresh rate. I didn't even realise it was a bug, just stupidly assumed more Hz = more wasted power.
The monitor is a AOC CU34G2X for reference.

Quoting: ShmerlOh gosh, thank you so much! Adding a custom modeline fixed it!Quoting: whizseNo hardware changes, but I did switch from 144Hz to 60Hz. Why? Turns out just idling at 144Hz causes the GPU never to enter the lowest power state and using 17(!) more watts.
I should probably try out that VRR stuff.
What display? I had this issue with my previous LG display, but newer one works fine. You can also experiment setting custom modelines to work around it, but that's not possible in Wayland session in KDE.
There is a huge bug about it here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1403

Quoting: lejimsterDoes anyone here run gamescope on their PC?I do, but mainly for upscaling old games, or pillarboxing games that doesn't do aspect ratio correctly.

At least at the moment it doesn't. In fact it does not scale at all.
But it's still early days. Walk before you run, etc.
Actually, I'm a filthy liar. It's there, but not enabled by default. You have to set the (string) registry key
HKCU\Software\Wine\Wayland Driver\HiDPIScaling to Compositor or Application and it works.
I see no real difference between Wayland and Xwayland here. But I'm just comparing winecfg with the default font.

Quoting: DefaultX-odI wonder how will fractional scaling work with wine apps once wayland driver becomes available. Like is it going to be scaled and crisp like Qt and GTK apps?

Quoting: jarhead_hHow to get it? Just switched to Debian 11 with SID repo... so maybe next year?Point releases usually go into sid within a couple of days. Major release, like this one, often spend a couple of weeks in experimental.

The announcement was a pleasure to read! Well written and most importantly gives full credit and kudos to not only Zink the project but to mr Blumenkrantz personally. Exactly the way you should do it. Others could learn from this!
