Proton GE sees another new release pulling in lots of fixes

Quoting: TheSHEEEPProton-GE has to be one of the most wildly unreliable pieces of software that I use regularly anyway.

If/How it works changes radically for me per game. Some games won't work with it at all that work just fine with normal Proton, some games work, but with abysmal performance compared to normal Proton.
Or the other way around.
Or anything in-between.
This must be expected. There's a reason all those patches haven't been mainlined yet.

Yay zebras!

I'm very glad about the road markers fix. Those buggers had a tendency to find themselves stuck in the wheel wells of some cars, leading to rally car pole vaulting...

Valve dumped Debian Linux for Arch Linux with SteamOS 3 because surprise - faster updates

Let's see... Valve is now using (an old) Ubuntu for the Scout Steam runtime. Debian 10 as the Soldier runtime for Proton, and Arch for SteamOS. Pretty cool little menagerie of distributions!

As a Debian user I guess I should be disappointed by them choosing Arch. But why? We should celebrate open platforms. The lack of vendor lock in, and how easy it is to move from one distro to another!

Quoting: MaathId used to open source their game engines after a while. Do they not do that anymore either?
Nope.

Rumor is that Zenimax is actually working on a way to travel back in time and prevent any source releases from id from ever having taken place.

Quoting: Alm888It can (by default root directory is mounted as Z: drive). So a Linux-aware Windows virus can access ones "host" filesystem and, let's say, encrypt all the files it can grab.

WINE developers warn everybody: WINE is NOT a sandbox!
Yes! This should be stated and re-stated over and over again. The danger is not just theoretical. Wine is proven to be both virus and ransomware compatible:

Quoting: F.UltraWell to be honest in order to fulfil "that will tell games if they're being run on the Steam Deck" that API could be just /etc/os-release :-)
Z:\\etc\os-release

Quoting: BeamboomWow I was not aware of that "hidden department"! I wonder what else that slot is intended for?!
Hidden snack compartment? I mean, it heats up, and it looks like it's the perfect size for a pop-tart.
