I love the resolution of the screen; the refresh rate and the easy access to the board; fans and NVME but without Coreboot and knowing it won't work properly on the libre kernel i'll pass.

I refuse to buy games with Denuvo on principle even if they work with Linux. This will be no different.

GOG finally remove the false "in progress" note about GOG Galaxy for Linux

Quoting: damarrinThere is no comparison between Valve's and GOG's support of Linux.

GOG reluctantly provide Linux versions of some games. They don't provide Galaxy which means there are missing features in many of those games, like multiplayer or leaderboards. They basically tell people: look, you can game on Windows and get everything, or, yeah, you can game on Linux if you're insane and are OK with missing features and a lesser experience.

Valve provide everything for Linux, from a full-featured client up to enabling Windows-only games to run on Linux with full features. Feral ports are Feral's fault, not Valve's. You can always install the Windows version, which Valve directly allow and enable you to do, to get cross platform multiplayer.

When you buy from GOG, you support the game's creators and GOG, who do nothing to make Linux a more attractive gaming platform. When you buy from Steam, you support the game's creators and Valve, who spend huge amounts of money to make Linux gaming viable (the reason why they do it is debatable, but irrelevant here).

So, yeah. No hypocrisy there.

So from what you're saying Feral's ports are Feral's issue not Valve's but it's ok to blame GOG for Linux ports on their store missing features ? Real fair. Also it's ok to have to use the Windows version of a game but not ok to have to use the Windows version of Galaxy ? This is the hypocrisy Linux gamers are spewing everywhere I go. They will bend their morals and ethics for Valve but get uppity if anybody else suggest they make the same compromise for them.

I'll never understand the logic of Linux gamers. GOG gets criticized for not having a Linux version of their client by the same people who, a majority of, run out in droves to buy Windows games to play in Wine/Proton. It's ok for them to support those who don't support Linux but not for GOG to not offer a Linux version of their client, even though they sell Linux versions of games. The hypocrisy is mind blowing.

QuoteBut without Galaxy, some games end up missing features for Linux

Some Linux ports on Steam also have this issue such as Feral ports that don't have cross platform multiplayer.

One part of me wishes they had used GPLv3 over MIT but the other part is just happy they made it FOSS at all.

Quoting: itscalledrealityThree decent point and clicks for free. I’m not upset but GOG would probably reach more customers if they updated their catalog a bit and gave away more recent games or games from different genres.

I would assume that they would have to have agreed with the publisher/developer to give a game away for free so could be other genres not wanting to take part as much. Trying to convince a publisher of a AAA game to give a copy away for free could be a tough sell.

I like the look of the game. If they release the Linux version onto GOG or Itch.io i'll pick it up.

Quoting: PublicNuisanceNo privacy kill switches; no Coreboot support; looks like closed source firmware required on the GPU and wifi. If I was getting a new laptop i'd spend the extra money and get a Librem 14 or if I was spending the same/less i'd get suped up T440P from Vikings. I can see the appeal if wanting an AMD CPU/GPU is a dealbreaker for you but seems like a lot to give up on the privacy/security front.
A lot of people gave up on privacy long ago. I know I pretty much have; I can either spend a ton of time being obsessed with it and still probably not really succeed, or I can accept that the only reason there probably isn't anyone who knows that much about my really private stuff is that nobody cares, but all the information I generate that has any use for targeted advertising is applied in ten seconds flat and that's just how it's gonna be until the revolution comes.

Be the change you want to see. If you don't care about privacy then that's one thing but if one does care; does nothing to achieve what privacy they can; and then complains how they have none; then they get no sympathy from me.

Twitter agrees to Elon Musk buyout, a reminder we're on Mastodon

I don't have a Twitter account and I never will. Elon or no Elon. The three biggest shareholders of Twitter before were Blackrock; Vanguard; and Morgan Stanley. Two shady companies and a big bank. Really one shady company as the biggest shareholder of Blackrock is Vanguard. Who are the next biggest ? State Street Corporation; Aristotle Capital Management, LLC; Geode Capital Management, LLC and Barclays. More banks and hedgefunds. Where was the outrage when this was the status quo ? Where was the outrage when speech was being censored before Elon. That's right there was next to none. Those who cared about free speech were on platforms that did as well. All of this outrage is either manufactured or people are even more dense and uninformed than I gave them credit for and in that case I don't care about their opinion anyway. Between the companies I listed I have found dozens of lawsuits and trials that did not end in their favor. These are not saints or good companies but Twitter users kept using their product without any complaints. Elon may be just as bad but at this point he sure isn't that much worse. Keep using Twitter; Reddit; Instagram; Youtube and Facebook but spare the moral outrage because nobody who uses these platforms has a moral leg to stand on.
